I'm thinking about dumping my digi 002 and getting control, but I'd love to hear what it actually controls and how it controls it.

Any input welcome. Thanks.

Hi bassface....being a PC and logic user for many years and becoming one of the many severed heads of the distressing emapple partnership/buyout.

All I can say is that although logic is getting on a bit,it is still very usable and powerful in the mixing department....but personally as time and T2 move on Logic will become redundant for me shortly...project management etc is becoming a drag and my 3 year+ old version is getting a bit stiff with regards more modern up to date workflow which is what T2 to excels at.

Fortunately for me and others logic control was given a small free software update by Mackie which allows it to work as either a Mackie control/dedicated Logic control.(it can also support Hui emulation as well but you may need a rom update for this depending on your logic control rom)

I mention this because you may be able to pick up a used logic control cheaper.(I have seen them advertised here in the UK for under £500)

For most people who know how elegant and fast T2 is to work with....then it's another ballgame with the Mackie hooked up...in short it's like going through butter with a hot knife...for starters it's the dedicated control surface for T2,you will get full 2 way feedback...everything done in either T2 or Mackie Universal/Logic control will be mirrored in the other.

Everything is very transparent...then again there is only 3 pages and as you know you'll be in the project page most of the time but the others are also switchable.

I can edit and see my plug in parameters, faders, pans, mutes, solos, sends etc...scrubbing,scrolling and navigating around T2 is rapido...I have not fully used all the functionality there is but it appears to let me do almost everything I have tried so far...all of T2's buttons are functional...in particular just hit the automation button and away you go.

I believe the info is stored as the normal automation curves/data in T2.As for fine tweaking I tend to be a punch in or roll it again to get things done right in realtime rather the bugger about with automation data but this shouldn't be much of a problem to manually edit.

Together with the shortcuts it really is a killer combo...as close as you'll get to being an audio assassin ...seriously it's that slick.

One thing I would like to see but have seen no mention of is a lexan overlay for T2 which I hope Mackie will make...anyone from Mackie who may read this it would be great to hear your answer on this...I did email a little while ago.

All I can say in retrospect is fate has a strange way of working out....I find Tracktion a few years ago and found it pesonally appealled to me and was a revelation...things like the modular routing in the racks etc and then Mackie getting involved....hmmm I wonder if T2 will see Control support....well it's here now and I can finally make the full transistion and put a few ghosts to rest....well for now anyway.

Motion; Have you actually got a controller hooked into T2? I ask, because I have a Yamaha 01x controller (which has full Mackie emulation) but the record button doesn't work! Everything else is fine. I know of one other person with exactly the same problem and we're trying to nail to the software or hardware, although I suspect it's a T2 problem.

Hi Graham...yes it's hooked in....good question...at 1st it threw me and I thought it wasn't mapped...it responds to record only when I hold down the record button and then hit the play button at the same time...weirdly a bit like the old tape decks

Hopefully it will be the same for the O1x.

Yes the record should function like on a tape deck, HOLD Record and Press PLAY to begin recording.

Actually it makes complete sense....from the benefits of hitting a virtual record button in the virtual world to how it functionally works in the real world with real hardware...jeez it gets blurred...I was so used to just hitting the record button in Tracktion and thought it would be identical...a case of the unreal for the real...then the classic record and hit play like with a lot of other gear came to mind....eventually....duh!!! :hihi:

I'm going to load in the Spat Pod plug and see how things go surround wise.....hopefully it should all work.

Hi Beno if you catch this...any info on plans for the Lex T2 overlay for the Mackie Control?.... Thanks.

Thanks for the great replies, fellas.

Now I have to do some comparison shopping: Mackie Control, Yahama, and Logic Control.

Any thoughts comparing the three?

Nope - doesn't work, just drops into play mode.

Seems there is a small glitch in the communication from the 01x to T2. If you use the mouse to 'record' in T2, the record light will come up on the controller and the software records - but it won't work the other way round.

Someone on the Mackie forum has exactly the same problem.

[grovel]The inclusion of hardware control is the one thing that persuaded me to jump to Tracktion. I'm sure we'd both appreciate a fix for this - please [/grovel]

I only have hands-on experience of the Yamaha, although I researched a number of different controllers before I bought it.

The reason I eventually went for the Yamaha was simply that it gave the best 'bang for the buck'. Not only is it a hardware controller, but it also replaces the audio card, has internal DSP, blah, blah, blah.... Here's the full spec: http://www.01xray.com/hardware/hw_specs.html

Overall, I'm very pleased with it. On the downside, the manual is a total disaster and it took me quite a while to understand how this thing works (and I say that as someone who worked for many years as a recording engineer) - so prepare yourself for some midnight oil burning. Fortunately there's a user's support forum full of people who do seem to understand the thing (and Ymaha also pop in now and then).

Since mackie control seems to be working with Hold Record + Play but Yamaha 01x isn't then to me that says it is a Yamaha problem with their implementation of the Mackie Control Spec. I think you should mention it to them.

And let me double check on the Lexan question. I'm pretty sure I know the answer but I haven't heard an update in a while so let me check back with HQ and I'll post when I know the answer.
