Regarding time stretching... When I was 1st looking at hosts, I though time stretching was a pretty important thing (I was looking at Adobe Audition too) and it is if you're going to be spending a lot of time with loops. Right now I could care less about time stretching as I am not using loops for anything and I probablly never will. I have better alternatives.

I second that. I think the MIDI grid is great, other than the fact that quantize is absolutely useless, unless you're using mostly quarter notes. I use Reason through ReWire, and it's frustrating to easily snap notes to the lines in Reason and then jump over to the grid challenge in Tracktion.cbit wrote:The tracktion implementation of groove quantize is unweildy imo.
The grid is evidently based on zoom level and not time sig., so you consistenly have notes crossing over bars. It would be so much easier if you could zoom in, see 16th notes or whatever, and just drag your notes to the bars!
As much as I am loving Tracktion, it's these kinds of simple things where it seems the incredible intuition of the overall design just got dropped somehow.
Plenty of Sonar->Tracktion people here though, to help you make a decision.

i personally would recommend tracktion 2 over audition for recording. i own both and now see audition only as a sound editor... tracktion is by far better

I don't disagree with that... I guess I just haven't found a use for it for the things I do. I apologize if steered anybody errantly...cbit wrote:(@darcyb62: time stretching has applications outside of loop based production)

Thanks to everyone for your helpful and honest answers. You've convinced me that T2 is the way to go. More than anything I don't want to get bogged down in hidden menus and a huge manual (Sonar)to plough through which will restrict creativity and fun! There seems enough expertise and support here in the forum to identify workarounds should I ever need them. I'm ordering the hardware and software to get started in recording this week.
I look forward to participating in this superb forum as a Tracktion user!
AndrewSimon, midi guitar is another possibility I was considering. What was the system you were using in the video. I couldn't see a Roland style pickup on your guitar?

It is NOT a midi tracking system.21tones wrote:Thanks to everyone for your helpful and honest answers. You've convinced me that T2 is the way to go. It is actual keys (no strings on the neck)
