T2 and Rewire...

Hmmm... so is there a sync problem with T2 and Rewire? The instruments play fine, but the Redrum will not sync to the Ts start and stop properly. Was there a discussion of this already?? Haven't tried a Dr. Rex yet, anyone else getting this to work??

If it's reason 3 it could possibly be related to the bug the props discovered as outlined here:

2) Pattern Change Automation
Reason 3.0 misinterprets pattern change automation when patterns don't start on the downbeats. This can be a problem when loading songs with pattern automation, created in version 2.5 or older. This problem does not occur if the length of the patterns conforms to the time signature (e.g. 16 or 32 step patterns in a 4/4 song) and the pattern changes happen on downbeats.

That's not the problem here... I'm not playing a song back. Just loading instruments into the HD interface, direct... then rewiring to T2... won't play back the Dr. Rex at all? I am using Reason 3.0, but the instruments play fine... they just don't seem to be syncing in playback?? Arghh! Redrum is the best!!

Post

Anyone have Reason 3.0 rewired to T2... (working that is) Redrum starts late... Dr.Rex doesn't play back at all! :help:

Not using either of those but just using nnxt/combinator synths. All working well with the regular stuff though.

It does work with the synths... but I'd kind of like to be able to use Redrum and Dr. Rex, you know... Hmmm, maybe they didn't test this with 3.0? If it's a Reason 3.0 problem, so be it. If not, that's a big hole in the Rewire implementation  I'll have to try Live and see if it will sync. :?

I'm using Redrum just fine. Haven't tried Dr. Rex yet, except for previewing in Reason.

Hi,
THe business with ReDrum starting late was there before. I am still on R2.5, but I have problems with rewire if I use main or pattern sequencers within Reason itself. I can only guarantee good results if I do all the sequencing inside of Tracktion. This partly defeats the object, because one of my main reasons to rewire Reason is that I love the intuitive and quick drum programming of ReDrum. Damn! :(

never had this issue with 2.5 or 3 on the pc xp.

You mean your programming hits within T?? or are you syncing Redrum to playback patterns in Reason from T?? Big difference... Redrum should sync to the master, and playback patterns in time with the host? That's the way it works in Logic, anyway... Not good! ...sort of like partial Rewire... :(

I was under the impression you could sync Live's audio to a Rewire host? I tried to playback Live in T2, and couldn't get it to work, or even recognize Live as a slave... Am I doing something wrong, or does that work even less?? Hmmm... :(

No, I do all my programming in Reason for all Reason devices. I only use the two default output channels from Reason though, so that may have something to do with your setup?

So your saying that when you program a pattern in Reason's redrum, and rewire it to T, and playback the pattern, it's syncing correctly... playing the pattern from the first beat, at the start of the T transport, and looping correctly?? Because it won't do that on mine... OSX version with Reason 3.0... Whether it's wire to the HW interface doesn't make any difference. It's not playing the patterns back in sync, it skips the first few beats, and then starts playing the pattern... If your using the same setup, that doesn't make sense. I have a Dual 2.0 G5 Mac, so it shouldn't be a problem...

I'll have to check that specifically and let you know. I never start a song right at the beginning, but always leave at least 4 measures as a lead-in. I'll report back, but so far, the only problems I've had with Reason 3 have been problems reported on the Propellerheads site. I had some GUI problems, but that turned out to be 1G of mismatched memory that once removed, cleared up a lot of issues.

Hmmm, well the problems with Reason as a slave in Tracktion are the ones you noted. The problems with Live seem to be different. I listed the problems I have had in a seperate thread here:

All in all though, Tracktion is not working out to be a very useful Rewire host for me at present :(
