my bro sent me a couple of wmv files of his kid and i thought i might send them back to him with some extra sounds and stuff.

i assume i'll need to convert the wmv files to quicktime files but i can't seem to find any programs that will convert from wmv to mov. any ideas?

The trick is to first convert to .avi. I don't believe there are any cheap solutions to convert directly from WMV to MOV, because of how Apple likes to kind of shield it's format. But I do know there are several apps to take avi to mov. So convert to avi first. Search download.com or something, and you should find some freeware or shareware to do the job. Or just google it. Hope this helps!

(EDIT) just noticed you need pay-for an add-on for .mov export (ive only ever imported them into it) ... sorry ...

Will Quicktime Pro convert AVI to Quicktime? It's 30$.

Converting WMV to AVI can be done for free using RAD video tools or the freeware version of STOIK.

Anyway, the lack of free encoding tools for quicktime make the choise of format rather problematic. Luckily, I don't do videos.

I can see why Jules did Quicktime (cross-platform), but support of other formats (at some point) would be handy.

QT Pro will convert .avi to .mov

I can't get the QT window to pop up in Tracktion 2. It appears on the task bar, but I can never view it. Anyone else with that problem? Too busy to fight it now, but it's on my list.

I do agree that I wish there were more movie formats. But I can do for now. Everything that Jules has done has pretty much been with complete compatability in mind.

Doesn't quicktime play avi? Do you need to convert it to .mov?

quicktime plays .avi ... but the T2 video player only (currently) supports .mov files ...
