For those having MIDI timing issues, a couple of questions:

1) are the problems new to T2, or did you also experience them with T1.

2) do you also have problems with slow UI response when *not* working with very long MIDI clips[1].

3) if you have slow UI response, was this also present in T1?

4) does changing your ASIO latency make a difference? If so, is it better set with small or large buffers?

5) Do the MIDI timing problems become exaggerated under increased MIDI load?

6) Please give details of OS, MIDI interface (USB/PCI), video card, and general hardware.

TIA.

(I confess I'm not having much luck at replicating the timing issues some users on both Mac and PC have been experiencing, but I'm determined to get to the bottom of it. :( )

[1] I have managed to make Tracktion misbehave with MIDI clips that are very long and complex.

What happens if you split the clips??

I was experiencing the problem in the most recent T1 version but to anything like the extent I am in T2.
2) do you also have problems with slow UI response when *not* working with very long MIDI clips[1].
No.
3) if you have slow UI response, was this also present in T1?
No. While I can detect a slight slow down in T2's interface compared to T1 it's nothing to write home about.
4) does changing your ASIO latency make a difference? If so, is it better set with small or large buffers?
No difference at all.
5) Do the MIDI timing problems become exaggerated under increased MIDI load?
No.

XP SP2, MIDI on Emu 0404 PCI card, video card both Radeon 9200 and on-board S3 graphics.

In my case the MIDI stops the moment major screen updates take place, e.g. with external MIDI playing, resizing Tracktion's window will stop all MIDI output until the screen has been redrawn at which point All Notes Off and Reset Controllers messages are sent and the MIDI output resumes. Minor screen updates also cause the odd glitch.

To add a little more - I've whacked the audio latency upto maximum and down to minimum with no effect on the problem. I've just tweaked bus latencies also with no effect. I've done it with real time priority on and off, ASIO direct on and off. Screen redrawing kills external MIDI!

Which seems to be a common theme, but then my video card, which really is at the bottom of the barrel, should be giving me grief. :?

What screen res do you work at? I'm only running at 1280x1024 on a single screen.

Thanks for the feedback so far. :)

Anyon else?

I'm also running at 1280x1024 on a single screen. (I had to lose the second screen :( )

It's only Tracktion's display updates that kill the MIDI, any other application has no effect on it at all.

So far, my experience is that dense MIDI clips cause problems. However testing an edit on two boradly similar machines gave significantly different levels of performance degradation, so I'm scratching my head to work out quite why.
