Ok, people, box products are great, they'll soon rule the world, but not in the country I do live in - Russia. Everyone blames Russia as a "Piracy stronghold", but what can we do? There's ONE AND ONLY Mackie's "Exclucive distributor" company, and they don't sell Mackie S/W at all! Ok, hell with them, i've had two relly boring conversations with two european resellers and what did I learn? I will receive the desired box at retail price (no discounts!) plus 40-100 EUR shipment charge within TWO MONTHS! OR, MAYBE MORE! OR EVEN NEVER! - and i MUST pay with my credit card right on the checkout. So, how about sofware piracy? Looks like it's the only way to have fully working T2.

i fully agree with the environmental reasons given by fake_fake for his dissatisfaction.
unfortunately, very few people give two squirts of piss what happens to the planet, just so long as nobody messes with their shiny boxes. When the whole biosphere is on the verge of total collapse, maybe one or two people would agree, but not likely.

Wow, reading the original post is amazing. A guy who "is unable" to make music because mackie offers their product in a box, and he was dumb enough to order it from MF. (the only retailer widely known to not usually have Tracktion in stock) It IS 2005, and most consumers are not able/willing to download much beyond a few hundred megabytes of data yet. (which throws RM IV right out the window, a product that retails for uhhm.. $150)
Then a plea to offer a freely downloadable product from a guy who admits he downloaded a crack of it anyway. Yes, just the sort of thing to entice Mackie to make the product even more susceptible to piracy than it is. All while claiming that he already "paid" for it, although anybody who has ever ordered gear from MF knows that the C.C. isn't charged until the product is in stock, and has shipped. interspersed are some references to pollution, and having lots of gear (I guess there was no pollution when the hardware was manufactured/packaged/shipped) and some veiled references to the RIAA and MPAA (read: "I have loads of "free" music and movies on my hard drive!")
There is a point to be made here, perhaps there should be a downloadable version (enabling Mackie to have a share in a larger market, since none of their major competition is looking at this angle either) But this is the sort of post to make Mackie go "hey let's NEVER offer a downloadable version m'kay"

im not "unable to make music", check the date, this was when t2 first came out. no one knew who was "widely known" not to have it in stock because hardly anyone had it!
people dont need to download hundreds of megs. t2 is small, and it is already downloadable off mackie.com!! now you just allow people to purchase a key to activate it in under 5 minutes, like most every software vendor that knows anything already does.
for RM IV, which sucks and i dont use, you provide a CD in a simple recycled cardboard sleeve to be mailed to you for $10 or whatever that has t2 + the big stuff. macromedia does this. some people like me wouldnt bother with it, since the downloaded t2 has most everything.

Now as for the rest, it is very simple: if you just wanted to have a rant about boxed sequencers, you've made your point. If you actually want to convince anyone to do something about it, you've failed miserably. That doesn't reflect on MY intelligence, it reflects on yours. Threatening to resort to piracy because someone doesn't offer something exactly to your liking is lame. (and that IS what you were doing)
I also said that you have a point. I happen to believe in your idea, that's what makes me irate. It is retarded that every person who makes your argument has to bring the threat of piracy to the table, It is counter productive.
