M-Audio's Omni Studio (Delta 66 + Omni I/O) works smoothly over here, in both T1 and T2 (on a P4 based system).

well the MOTU's are verry good cards & AFAIK thay run verry well in tracktion
if that card has all the input & out put ports you need & you can afford it then i would go for it
i'm part of the PC world so i cant give that much advice on a MAC setup
all the best with your new sound card

Metric Halo ULN-2 or MobileIO are great firewire interfaces . The ULN has fab pres and both have flexible monitoring. Quality is much better than MOTU (I have owned both).

I have an Echo Gina 3G... in a Dual 2.0 G5... zero problems so far! Works great in Logic 7.1 and T2... I don't do much audio recording, but the tests I have done have been great, running a very old Strat into Guitar amp in Logic, and Amplitude in T2... buffer at 128!

I run the motu 828 mk II with no problems. I would recommend the 828 with a seperate preamp... not a big fan of motu's preamps.
Also, 192k doesn't buy you anything; nothing from microphones, speakers to the human ear are designed to hear/record at the frequencies enabled at that sample rate.

You could consider the RME Fireface 800 - awesome product although a little more pricey than most.
