Tracktion can't deal with multiple audio interfaces?

I'm trying to record Audio Unit sound piped in through Soundflower. The only way I can apparently get Soundflower to appear in Tracktion, though, is to entirely change the wave device. That then makes Soundflower my default output (not what I want) and if I switch it back to my MOTU 828mk2, then it loses the Soundflower inputs.

Why can't I seem to set a single Soundflower input while keeping the rest of my MOTU in/outs? Am I missing something obvious? Or is this just a really stupid oversight on Mackie's park?

I'm using Tracktion 2 on OS X 10.4. I'm hoping to get this working so I don't have to resort to setting up JACK and hoping that THAT works (while likely encountering similar issues).

Since you are in 10.4, you should be able to create an 'Aggregate device' in Audio-Midi Setup that includes all the inputs you want to use. I was able to use both Built-in Audio and a USB mic this way, I believe it should work for you as well.

Whoa. How did apple think of that? That's beautiful!

Now I've got a 30 i/o device. Requires a bit more set up but should do just what I want. Thanks braj, you're the man :D

Yeah, that's a great feature, now all I need is the hardware to leverage it.

I'd say that's one compelling reason to choose Macs for your DAW. Now where did I leave that three grand for my Dual G5? My 667 Powerbook is getting a bit long in the tooth.

The idea came from BeOS I suspect. BeOS of course was the creation of a bunch of NeXT refugees, themselves Apple refugees from the dark days. I get the impression that many of the Be Inc programmers are now back at Apple alongisde the NeXT devlopers that Jobs brought in with him.

One day perhaps Windows will manage to have a media control center that makes this much sense, and perhaps they'll even do it without adding a tonne of unecessary cruft along with it.

Perhaps.

That's precisely why I jumped ship -- dealing with audio drivers and device control on windows is such a headache. it doesn't help that every vendor seems to handle it differently and they don't talk to one another in a friendly way.

I mean, it makes so much sense. Oh well, I'll be at home rockin' out with Core Audio in the meantime ;D I tested it this morning and worked without any fuss -- just set up the device, pipe audio as you would any i/o, and ta da!
