The freeze/unfreeze can take a long time on complex edits with a large number of tracks - this is true.
Ther have been discussions (somewhat heated at times) in the RM forum regarding this issue, & feature requests for a track by track freeze etc.
wouldn't call it useless, but limited & only to be used when absolutely neccesary (hate that word, 37 & I can still never remember how to spell it properly, it's like i've got a mental block or something - too many blows to the head as an unruly youth maybe).

to hijack this thread further ... render and add ...
(if you can get over the bit-depth issue or its not an issue at all for you)

weird that you defend such an obviously bad concept...

not defending it per se (dont use it) ... just pointing out the manipulative nature of your statement ...
... i find it equally odd that as an eXT 'evangelist' you feel the need to take time out to attack such an OBVIOUSLY bad concept ...

one of the reasons I stopped working with Tracktion is that my projects often use too much cpu to be processed in realtime but rendering (as ad80 suggested) adds another track and there aren't folder tracks and you can't lock the height of minimised tracks and so everything became really cluttered rather fast and...pHz wrote:not defending it per se (dont use it) ... just pointing out the manipulative nature of your statement ...

but as i said theyre still issues FOR YOU ... none of those things hamper my use of the app AT ALL (i prefer to work WITH what something CAN do rather than moan about what it CANT) ...
... you DO have a scrollwheel dont you ???
you have an app youre happy with no ??? (eXT IS perfect after all ... ) why bother attacking others ??? ... yes i (and others) might defend what we perceive as good in T2 but i for one try not to do it at the expense of what other people choose to use ... its horses for courses and A LOT of members here would do well to remember that i reckon ...

Its not a bad concept. If I want to freeze and still be able to edit, I render. If I want to freeze permanently I deep freeze.jens wrote:weird that you defend such an obviously bad concept...
I completely agree with you about the lockable track sizes! I've requested it many times. It'll happen eventually.

things get only better if you criticize what's bad about them...pHz wrote:but as i said theyre still issues FOR YOU ... none of those things hamper my use of the app AT ALL ...

eXT is far far from being perfect b.t.w. and I'd never pretend it was - but Jorgen really cares for the wishes of his users and he implements them rather than just saying 'I'll look into it but for the moment it surely isn't a big problem for you to....'

To answer the dudes initial question both T2 & Live are good apps to start on, & both have their particular ...ahem (worzel gummidge screws on his diplomatic head) idiosyncracies.
There - & I got to say my favourite word as well.

But isn't there good and bad in everything jens? for example, I prefer not to use eXT because if the way it places clips in the timeline, such that it's totally unintutive when selecting overlapping clips. You select the clip ontop, and it selects the clip underneath.. the one you can't see.
In addition, I can't move a single object on the interface without the audio glitching. It knocked eXT out of the box as a main sequencer for me... two well documented issue which surprisingly have yet to be addressed. Now let's ask someone else, and we know they can come up with 1000 more reason why both eXT and Tracktion suck. hehehe...
In the end, it's always a matter of perspective no matter what you use. Personally I like the tracktion freeze, mainly because I do everything from a laptop so I have a slow ass drive. This single mix freeze is perfect for me... but I can understand the desire for alternate methods. Hopefully we'll see them in the future
I'll continue to use eXT as my swiss army knife, cos it just rocks too. Unforunately, everything has issues.. is just a matter of what you are willing to put up with.

I agree 100% - these issues really drive me insane at times...ModuLR wrote: for example, I prefer not to use eXT because if the way it places clips in the timeline, such that it's totally unintutive when selecting overlapping clips. - eXT still doesn't compensate for the asio-latency when recordingThis is such a terrible thing and it shouldn't be too hard to fix. I really can't understand why this basic neccesity still isn't implemented.
- various performance-problems as mentioned elsewhere
(e.g. incredibly slow gui-reaction when cpu-load >~70%, terrible crashes when switching drivers or changing buffer-sites, etc.)
- there's no redo.
- when clips in the sequencer are overlapping it's still either very difficult or in some cases even impossible to grab the clip which sits 'later' on the timeline.
There are some more things of lesser importance which are a bit 'unellegant' (e.g. you can't simply clone a track, you can't delete a track by use of the delete-key, you can't select several tracks at once) but these four points are imo more important than any neat feature which Jorgen could possibly implement instead of fixing them.
If they also bug you then please stop requesting additional features for a moment and support me here!
(damned - I feel a bit like the voice of reason here - I'm the one who's always got to shout 'NO MORE NEW FEATURES PLEASE BEFORE YOU HAVEN'T CLEANED UP THIS MESS HERE!![]()

- no really: it bugs me massively even though I still get my songs finished!)
you are totally right for sure - but I never said you are an idiot if you prefer Tracktion over eXT or something like that...

I merely said Tracktion's freezing imo totally sucks and it does -imo!
