Why would anyone but a troll compare a Tracktion rack to Reaktor?

been here before but i feel pedantic ... live DOESNT render clips and tracks ... sure you can record them in realtime but its not EXACTLY the same thing ... and although (as you know) i use and love live i find its routing process MUCH less intuitive than T2s (and much of lives routing was AFAIR only added in live 4 with the introduction of MIDI)headquest wrote:Live?tracks can be routed to other tracks, clips and tracks can be rendered etc etc.
... oh and ... reaktor / audiomulch / bidule are not apt comparisons ... NONE of them are (currently) a sequencer that includes a modular environment ... and eXT could be maybe better described as a modular environment that contains a sequencer ... the racks in tracktion are more like what i had in mind years back when i used to discuss with jorgen (eXTs dev) the possibility on adding a modular element to his massiva project than what he came up with in the current project (cool though it is)
PERHAPS the revolutionary aspect is that it offers ALL these things from all these other hosts (and maybe - depending on your PoV - a few more) in one package at a deeply competetive price point ...headquest wrote:Tracktion: a fantastic combination of the best bits from "the others" - in theory at least...
...but revolutionary? I don't quite see that bit...
... and dont forget that some of these features were seen in tracktion BEFORE the apps you mention developed them
(disclaimer - i KNOW T2 also has its 'quirks' and current issues that make it awkward to use for some people)

Yes, I've been looking at the M-Powered demo and considering it carefully. I've also spent a little time with the full program in a studio. The thing I find striking about ProTools IS the single-screen edit view. Certainly you can bring up a mixer console, but there's surely no need to. Everything CAN be mixed directly in the edit view, in pretty much the same way as on Tracktion's arrange page. The inline MIDI editing right there on the edit page is also strikingly similar to Tracktion.AD80 wrote: Have you ever even been near a Pro Tools system? Theres nothing flat about its GUI. And it has a gang of menus. And the mixer screen is separate from anything else. Why would you even mention PT's GUI ?![]()
Personally I found the similarity striking on first impression. But as a more seasoned pro, you no doubt have a deeper knowledge of ProTools than I do, as I'm predominantly a performer/teacher/writer, rather than a sound engineer.
Tracktions GUI is closer to Live's.

Interesting topic. I've yet to watch the video, so I can't fully comment. As for the style of marketing, I like it. However, its not the reason I bought Tracktion. Its not that important to me and it never influences my buying. I base my purchases on demo evaluations, not the marketing fluff. If the video content is of poor quality then I would agree with you - they should remove it. However, if it has decent content but it is presented in an 'unprofessional manner' then that is fine with me.
We all have our likes/dislikes. If an app's marketing style is important to you then buy an app that has a style that suits you. Application quality is what matters to me and that's what I try to buy.

Perhaps, yes. That's what attracted me to Tracktion two years ago, and it's why I'm still spending manyan hour trying to sort out the various problems I'm having with T2.pHz wrote: PERHAPS the revolutionary aspect is that it offers ALL these things from all these other hosts (and maybe - depending on your PoV - a few more) in one package at a deeply competetive price point ...
T1 was very productive for me because it does combine so many good things. I just react to the "fanboy" mentality that tries to make out that Tracktion is fantastic and everything else is shit.
I personally find it unfortunate that the whole pretext of T1 was started out on such a negative footing towards other software, and by implication its users.
Is it any wonder that we end up having silly scraps here about which sequencer is the better? Damn - I got drawn in so far that I've become one of the main culprits... it didn't used to be that wayJules wrote: Thanks to all the other sequencers for irritating me so much that I decided to write my own

they are all sequencers and can get the job done. They just go about it slightly different ways. What sucks is the constant need to "do as the others do" in order to be preceived as professional. Take the risk, break the rules, be adventurous. It's more rewarding in both success and failure. I think the motto hits the nail on the head. If your tracks suck, then they suck. No sequencer will fix it for you. It's actually more truthful than humorous...

I think the people who don't like the video are secretly worried that their own music sucks even harder..

...and to which you have no idea how well the marketing strategy is working... you just assume it's a failing strategy because you don't like it. Stuff like that spreads like wildfire on the net. Whether the end result is positive or negative can only be determined in time. But I bet it'll have a much larger viewership than a "normal" demo video. They took a chance on being different.. I'm game for it.. hope it works well!
