you need to just keep the latest version in your windows\system32 folder.headquest wrote: Also is it safe to simply delete the others?
If you have reason 3 installed that should be version 1.5.2.89.
As for the one's in the Tracktion directory, they are likely only used when you install tracktion & it asks you whether or not you want rewire installing (doesn't it ask that at some point?).
They should be cool to delete, & shouldn't cause any trouble.

Okay, so I've deleted all the rewire.dll files except the one in the Windows\system32 folder, and I've now had time to thoroughly go over what is and isn't working. My findings are as shown below.
FIrst though, just to confirm the "quirks" of Live 4's behavior when in Slave mode:
1. Live 4 cannot be opened from any host application directly, and must be opened seperately. Simply the way Live behaves.
2. Live 4 has no MIDI bus to the Rewire host application.
3. Live 4's own instruments CAN be sequenced and played within Live, however, with audio streamed through the Rewire host.
4. Live 4 does not load VSTs when in Rewire slave mode.
As a Rewire slave then, Live 4 has some limitations that some slaves (e.g. FL5) do not have at this stage.
Now, bearing this all in mind, here is how things now stand on Windows XP platform:
Audition [host] + Reason [slave]
Everything working correctly
Audition [host] + Live 4 [slave]
Everything working as it should
Live 4 [host] + Reason [slave]
Everything still spot on
Tracktion 2 [host] + Reason [slave]
Syncronisation problems. First note drop when material is sequenced from within Reason (e.g. DrRex/Matrix/Redrum patterns).
Works OK if you do all the sequencing from within Tracktion, and have empty bar(s) at the beginning.
Tracktion 2 [host] + Live 4 [slave]
Not working properly, as follows:
A) Live's instruments do not sound at all (i.e. Impulse/Simpler/Operator) although they should when controlled from within Live.
B) Using Live 4 for playing back audio loops, the tempo indicator matches Tracktion's, but the Live 4 feed drifts out of time with Tracktion.
That seems to sum up the position here, and I hope it helps with tracing the source of the issues with Tracktion 2 as a Rewire host. I get the sense that the issues on a Mac platform are at least similar?
Perhaps ModuLR / valley / Beno could report this on to Jules/Mackie for attention?
Thanks guys

And your talking about Live 4.1.2 and T2 in OSX 10.4.1, right?? I'm having a time figuring out what could be different between your setup than mine? Other than OSX 10.3.9... Live works fine by itself, works fine as a host to Reason, Logic works fine and as a host to Reason? What version of Rewire are you using? I'd sure like to figure this out, if there is something different in my setup, or versions of something... I can hear a midi instrument playing in Live while I'm in T2?? What the...braj wrote:BTW, the transport in my setup is synced.

The only ReWire app I have is Fruity so I can't test all that thoroughly.headquest wrote: Perhaps ModuLR / valley / Beno could report this on to Jules/Mackie for attention?
Anyone else?

I'll try to find some time to go over rewire thoroughly tonight. I haven't seen the new issues being raised, just the old dropped first beat.

ok ... some quick-n-dirty checks done ...
B) cant replicate that either - it stays in time even with me farting about with tempo and stuff while still keeping playback going
(only issue i see immediately on my setup is that under rewire live responds a tad slower than when in 'standalone' mode to GUI manipulations)
no offence here mate ... but the more problems you find the more i think most (as you know - im not naive enough to think T2 is ANYWHERE near perfect) of your issues are to do with your specific setup somewhere ... doesnt mean that T2 isnt a factor but SOMETHING is providing the catalyst ...
... and i GENUINELY am another one willing to help you try and narrow it down if at all possible ... any further T2 / live tests you want me to run ???
(T2 2.0.1.4 / live 4.12 here ... and for the record ive never manually or knowingly removed or moved any rewire .dlls on my setup through updating to live 4 and through all its subsequent versions nor through my period betatesting T2)

Yes, thanks for trying to help out here pHz... and you have helped a lot on many occasions.
I have been wondering what is wrong on my setup too. I guess that with all the demos I've installed, the sprawling VST folder, the multiple soundcards, etc, etc... maybe take their toll. I had some real problems with Live 4 at first (CPU spikes, etc) but now things have settled. Let's hope things settle with T2 as well. T1 worked great for me, and I really want T2 to be the "new improved" version I hoped for
I double checked here though, and the issues A and B are repeated, fwiw. Best to wait now and see if the others who have posted problems here report back with their updates, as it seems to be not just me who is having problems with this.
Cheers mate.

Will prune the spurious ReWire.dll instances and install Reason 3, and then report back (prob tomorrow evening UK time).
Thanks for assistance to date all. Appreciated.

Bump / Update
Reason3 installed, no improvement.
Same symptoms as before, now when I quit Live (as a Rewire Slave) and press play I get an error message "Error Opening Audio Device: Can't Creat I/O buffers".
There appears to be a "zombie" Reason.exe process running too, not sure if that is relevant.
This is a pain as each test invovles re-booting, but I'll try more T2/Reason3/Live4.1.2 permutations tonight - go to run to work now.

Damn the consequences - tried some more.
T2 <- Rsn3 (slave) appeared to work OK
Live <- Rsn3 (slave) also appeared to work OK
Rsn3 apparently a well behaved ReWire Slave ...
Rsn3 <- Live - Live refuses to be Slave
Live <- T2 (T2 fails to open Auido device)
T2 <- Live as already reported, no initial errors, but nothing happens, exiting causes hung programs etc
XP Home SP 2, 512Mb Ram, Athlon 2400+
T2 2.0.1.4
Live 4.1.2
Reason 3.0
Now I really am going to work - man that traffic, it's a bitch eh ?

Hi there!jalapeno wrote:Damn the consequences - tried some more.

Your system and your software look similar to mine. I am being consistently advised on this and other threads that my problems are probably system specific, so possibly your are too? (But our systems are fairly typical modern PC setups, surely?)
A couple of points about your tests (I may have misunderstood what are saying, so apologies if this is the case)... Looking at your configurations it appears as though you tried a couple that are not *meant* to work anyway...
Reason will never act as Rewire host except to Rebirth through the Rebirth input device in Reason.
Tracktion will not act as a rewire slave - its a host only.
Like I said, I'm probably misunderstanding your point, so sorry in advance!
I'm interested to hear that your T2 <- R3 is working fine. Have you tried sequencing Redrum starting on the first beat of the first bar within Reason and playing back through Tracktion? I still get the lost first not when I do this, but I'm on R2.5.

Nope you're right, I tried those combos just to see what happen.A couple of points about your tests (I may have misunderstood what are saying, so apologies if this is the case)... Looking at your configurations it appears as though you tried a couple that are not *meant* to work anyway...

Test T2 <-R3 had a DrRex loop (midi copied to track), and ReDrum on a repeating pattern (not yet copied to track). Drums were fine, but I'll check again. I had that first note problem on T1/R2.5.I'm interested to hear that your T2 <- R3 is working fine.
