Americans don't duel.

That's a barbaric European practice.

Americans have people shot.
What a short memory you have for being the father of history. You forget the Hamilton-Burr affair, not to mention the demise of Stephen Decatur, and the Ric Flair of affairs of honor, Old Hickory himslef, General(he insisted on that title and not Mr President)Andrew Jackson, who was in at least 2 duels I can think of.
I think herodotus was speaking of modern Americans when he made his comment.

For example, my former next door neighbor seemed like a reasonable person. He was actually far less annoying than the other neighbors. Then, one night he shot his wife, his mother-in-law, his mother-in-law's boyfriend, and he would have also shot his wife's boyfriend if he had only known that person was in the same building at the time. :-o

Yes, we modern Americans don't generally engage in duels. Not only do we have people shot, but we sometimes do the shooting ourselves. :-o

Call any vegetable.

Or even a black, rubber handled hammer.

That story about my former neighbor is true, but I wish it wasn't. I also wish my country didn't feel the need to have soldiers in so many places on the globe. The world is often a harsh and tragic place. I wish it wasn't so.

I don't know what secret intelligence the Bush administration might be holding, which might rationally explain their actions. I just have to hope they know what they're doing. (Admittedly, it's a nervous sort of hope.)

The vast majority of Americans are good, decent people. I hope most of the world knows that. I also hope that everyone realizes that the story about my neighbor is not typical of how things are here in America.

take care,

Actually I wasn't.

I don't even know any modern Americans. (except for people here, and I am not totally convinced that you all are real).

No, I was thinking something more along the lines of Pickmans Model.

But whatever any of us are: God bless us every one!
