Thanks for that feedback. I'm upgrading to R3.0 very shortly and it will be very nice if that helps the compatibility between the two programs.

(for various reasons to do with my profession I have been on a site license with R2.5, but for v3.0 I will be using a personal copy as I'm moving more towards freelance consultancy work and writing... hence the delay in upgrading, because I will need to fork out the whole price  )

Regarding the issue with Tracktion/Live 4 rewire, if people are having problems with this on Macs as well, it can't really be that system-specific . Let's hope a solution can be found :) :help:

Post

No the ReDrum is missing the first beat of the first bar, it's still busted with T2/R3 - I don't think this is news though, already been reported ad nauseum. A fix'd be nice :D

Post

Yes, it has been reported enough that you'd expect something to be done. . For a moment there I thought you were suggesting it was cured :(

At the risk of stating the obvious though (and/or being flamed :scared: ), for those of us that have Live 4 and Reason they make a compelling pair in their own right - very tight integration over Rewire. An example to all the others...

Post

via PM jalapeno asked for some system specs from me since i have the live4 / T2 rewire working properly here (subject to lives rewire quirks of course) ...

... might be hard to compare though since im totally laptop based ...

dell inspiron 9100
3.2Ghz pentium 4
1Gb RAM
40Gb internal HD / 80Gb external USB2 HD
windows XP pro (SP1)
echo indigo IO

details (since jalapeno asked for them) as below ...

Image

and i also have 2 different rewire .dll files showing up from a file search ...

version 1.4.4.71 in WINDOWS/SYSTEM
version 1.4.7.74 in WINDOWS/SYSTEM32

hope this helps in some way fellas ...

Hmmm... nothing there that looks wildly different from my set up, Rob :?

I'm 100% laptop based, too:

Fujutsu-Siemens Amilo D P4, 2.8Ghz, 512MB, 60Gb, XP (SP2), Radeon9000 graphics, M-Audio Ozonic audio/MIDI firewire interface...

...but checked again and still getting issues mentioned above (no sound from Live's own instruments, and syncronisation issues)

:? :help:

Anyway, thanks Rob 8)

Do Live's instruments play via rewire in other hosts? I've never tried this.

Yes.

Cheers Rob !

I have 512 Mb RAM, Terratec DMX6 sound card, an Athlon 2400+ cpu, XP Home SP2. (That's common to hq and me hmmm :?)

ReWire 1.5.2.89 in \\Windows\System32
(nothing in \\Windows)

I have ReWire 1.4.7.74 available in my T1 & T2 distros. I am going to try copying 1.5 to \\Windows. And then failing that reverting to 1.4 - see if that helps.

Rob some more if I may ...

Which Live4 increment are you running ?

How is the Live routing setup ?
- Is it everything to Master1/2 ? (and same T2 input)
- Is Monitor On/Auto/Off in the Session view in each Track ?
- Are you using Audio Loops and/or Live internal Instruments ?

I might be being dumb here (might ) - with T2/Rsn press play and you get noise - is Live ReWire setup as straightforward ?

OK, OS X.4.1, Live4.1.2, T2. Live4 native instruments work for me via Rewire (midi triggered from within Live, audio is channelled through T2). I don't see a way to trigger the Live native synths via midi from T2. I'm not sure that's possible with Live4 though. It explicitly doesn't support VSTs and I don't see why it would support this. On a Live channel's input there is no rewire option.

That's all fine and as it should be, braj.

The point is that here Live's instruments remain silent (although the level meters indicate sound is being sent out to Tracktion, it doesn't seem to be received by Tracktion)

You are correct that Impulse and Simpler cannot be sequenced from the host - they must be done within Live 4 itself. This is because in Rewire slave mode, Live 4 does not have a MIDI in from the host, hence not listed on the channel strip as you mention. Having said that, Impulse in particular is much better sequenced within Live 4 anyway, as the MIDI clip view lists the instruments and is specifically set up for this task

The reason that Live has these "quirks" is that its Rewire implementation dates back before it was a MIDI sequencer to the days when it was an audio looping only application. It is fully featured as a Rewire host (as good as it gets, in fact  ) but as a rewire slave it has no MIDI/VST functionality as such (unlike for example P5 or FL).

Now that it has developed into a fully-fledged audio/MIDI production environment as well as a live performance tool, I imagine this will be addressed in a later update. Having said that, from the point of view of rewiring it into T2 I would not need to host VSTs inside Live anyway - I would do that in Tracktion itself. But I WOULD like to be able to use Impulse (in particular) and Simplar... and Operator when I get around to buying it (which I'm sure I will do sometime soon, because its actually a lot of fun :) and sounds great).

Yes, basically that should work.

By the way I have rewire.dll 1.4.7.74 installed in Windows\system32 and removed all others. I do not have the 1.5.2.89 as I've yet to do the R3.0 upgrade (which is where yours came from  ) Reason 3.0 correctly installed this in your system32 folder. The older ones Tracktion installed elsewhere can/should be removed...

Anyway, glad it all works for me. Sucks being you :P

So, in Live's Audio Out, you can't select Rewire Out and the channels you want it to use? And in T2 you can't go to the Rewire filter and select those channels there and make it work?

Can you post screenshots of these areas? I really get this feeling that it's just some misunderstanding of how to set up rewire properly. Kindof like the issue you had with your Ozone.

Well swapping the 1.5 & 1.4.7 ReWire Libraries didn't do anything. Interesting that after I (1) delete the T2 Filter (2) Close Live and (3) Close T2 - there's a Traction process still running- and I can't kill it without re-booting.

Anyone care to host a 1.4.4.71 version ReWire.dll and I'll that a go as well - last hope for us I fear. Pretty please ? :help:

Thanks for the brotherly love. Only hope I can return the favour sometime.

Nope, they're all there, and slectable.

Live does run soooooo sloooooow though.
