hitting record button causes reboot

i just installed the demo of T2. I hit the record button and it instantly reboots. next time i hit the record button it gives me a message "The last time Tracktion was started the audio device "DirectSound" failed to start properly and has been disabled. Use the settings panel to re-enable it."
I ran dxdiag and while running the DirectMusic part, it did the instant reboot again. Tried downloading DirectX from MS site but it was a small download (300Kb) and didn't change anything. I think it saw I had a curent version na didn't give me a new one.
Anybody know what's going on with this?

Hmm sounds like some weird dx driver issues on your machine. If it's reboothing, I would think it has to be driver related. The dx driver suppport in tracktion is actually pretty good. You can get decent latency settings, but it kinda breaks up when the load gets high. In any case, what are specs on your machine?

go to the settings page in T and disable "the microsoft gw wavetable sw synth" in the midi output devices. Reload tracktion. Asio4All should then be available, after which you can enable the ms midi device if need be.mrhairy wrote:Is anyone using Asio4all in tracktion? Every time I try to use it with tracktion my outputs show up as "not connected" in the tracktion audio device settings.

it looks like it is the only device I've got. I just went into T2 to look at it and for Device there was listed <none>. the only other choice was direct sound, so i clicked on it and it promptly rebooted.ski rize studios wrote:dont use the direct sound driver!!!!!!

computer specs = 2.8GHz P4, WinXP home, 1 gig ram. Sonic Foundry stuff works fine.
I'll try downloading the ASIO4ALL driver (or device?)

well, Sonic Foundry doesn't work fine after all. Trying to record and playback in Vegas 4 causes a reboot, too.
Tested the audio hardware via Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices and it says my hardware doesn't support record and playback at the same time. using the Realtek chip on the Intel D915GAV motherboard. Seems like that should work. also using DirectX 9.0c.
downloaded ASIO4ALL and it appears as a device in T2, picked it but says no inputs are connected, so no record button. Sheesh.

hmm,
ok so it looks like you might have to buy a new sound cerd (unless there are updated drivers out for the one you have?)
you could just get a £5 sound card to get things working, asio4all should give you a good latency on any cheap old sound card
if asio4all is saying no input's are available even after mod's tip to get it going i would think that there is a problem with the sound device its self!
sorry to here you are having thease problems
glad to heare its not only a tracktion problem
PS, WELCOME TO KvR

I went to Realtek's site and downloaded the latest driver the other day trying to fix this. no help.
I built this computer last August and I'm not sure if I've ever ecorded anything with it. lots of editing, but no recording. it may have been hosed from the get go. I'll look at Intel's motherbord info and see what i can see.
thanks for the welcome. nice folks here.

Intel's support had me upgrading and downgrading drivers and BIOS all to no avail. They finally suggested I reformat and install OS fresh. I told them no thanks and bought a 30$ Soundblaster that solved the problem for me. Thanks to whoever suggested that remedy, and to everyone who tried to help.
