Has anyone created a kit using nskit7 with DK+? I'm not sure how to do it myself. If it's pretty easy, I'll give it a go - but it would be nice if someone would post theirs if they already have it. Of course I am not referring to the nskit samples themselves, just the kit definition within DK+.
Also, does DK+ output MIDI as well as audio? I haven't seen any indication of this but I wonder if the DK+ sequencer could be used to drive other drum machines (that don't have sequencers).

i havn't been able to get that to work for me either. I don't think its possible,(i may be wrong though) at least in tracktion that is. Would be a handy feature , dk+ could be marketed as a dedicated drum vst step sequencer using its samples or other vsti.lethe wrote:

Hello!
Well I had some spare time today and I thought it would help me get to know DK+ so here is my first attempt:
http://www.astudios.dsl.pipex.com/files/ns_kit7.dk+
Download the .wav samples from:
http://naturalstudio.co.uk/nskit_download.html
put the ns_kit7.dk+ file in the samples folder and load the file into DK+. I've only used about 60 of the samples so far - 20 pads with 3 velocity layers per pad.
I've nominally set the velocity crossovers to 60 and 110 and the mapping is pretty close to GM and follows the documentation included in the sample download.
I have mapped to the outputs as follows:
General kit - 1+2
Hihats - 3+4
Bdrum - 5+6
If people are interested I can document which samples I've used, so you can delete the rest or if you wait I'll carry one and set some more velocity layers. I did normalise on loading and I may try again without as it did cause me some problems with the hi hats in particular.
Big thanks to naturalstudio for the samples and of course to Liqih for DK+ - once I got started it was very straight forward to use.
Cheers
Trev

Wow - Thanks guido01!
I had pretty much given up on getting a response on this topic, and this post happens while I am here!
Woohoo!

Thanks Trev, can't wait to try it. Let us know if you do one with more layers...
Cheers again boyo

Thanks guys,
I found a couple of small errors on the panning and velocity - it has been a long day!
So I've uploaded the new file to the same link.
Let me know how you get on.

guido01 - Thanks again!
operandx - I see that you live in West Dorset. I live near Atlanta, GA on Weymouth Drive in a subdivision called Dorset. What is West Dorset like?

Lethe - West Dorset is the most beautiful area in England (I might be biased
). I actually work in Weymouth, which is South Dorset really, but live 25 miles to the west in a little village called Morcombelake which is famous for its 'Dorset Knobs'. No really, they are a kind of crispy bread roll. I'm looking out of the window and can see the sea of Lyme Bay and everything is green and spring-like.
This is what it looks like.. http://photos.lois.co.uk/portfolio.aspx?id=10 . To get a feel of Dorset read anything by Thomas Hardy (e.g. Mayor of Casterbridge, Return of the Native). The French Lieutenants Woman (do you remember Meryl Streep on the harbour wall, known as the Cobb) was set and filmed in Lyme Regis 7 miles away from my home.

Hi,
had some more time to play so I've updated the original map:
http://www.astudios.dsl.pipex.com/files/ns_kit7.dk+
Before loading the bank go to menu\preferences and tick "Do not normalise samples on load" - I've tried to balance the samples without normalisation and I think you get a better sound.
I've then gone on to add another two layers per pad. I've used DK+'s random function and set 3 samples with, hopefully, subtle variations to the middle velocity setting (60 - 109). This gives some variation to the sound and "livens" things up a bit. You can get this bank here:
http://www.astudios.dsl.pipex.com/files/ns_kit7_2.dk+
Now I've got the Hihats under control I've re-mapped the outputs as:
General kit to 1+2
Snare to 3+4
Bdrum to 5+6
I've made a short demo of the kit in action here:
http://www.wusik.com/song.php?id=790
Any comments or suggestions - let me know.
Cheers

Thanks again Trev. The demo sound v good. Wish I could program drums that well. Did you do all the drums in DK+. If so, wow.

At the moment they are sequenced in eXT, but there is no reason why they cannot be programmed in DK+ - I'll probably do that next and upload a bank with the patterns included if they are of use to anyone?operandx wrote:Thanks again Trev. The drums were recorded with a little room ambience and the track was mastered through GPP-1, but that's all.
I think disabling the normalise on load made a big difference as the normalise tended to counter act the veoctity of the individual samples - fine if you only have one layer.

thanks for this. BTW if you name the directory under library "UNSkit7" and rename ns_kit7_2.dk+ as bank.dk+, then you can select "NSkit7" from the kit pulldown menu...
