How many effects on a track is too many?

I was trying to get a nice lead guitar distortion sound (similar to the guitar in "Bad to the Bone") and at one point I had 5 filters on this track(delay, reverb, chorus, flanger, blockfish). I understand I may not need all of these to get this sound (haven't gotten it yet) but was wondering at what point you have too many filters.

racks will only realistically take 32 filters as there simply isn't screen estate for any more.
(unless you start sticking them on top of each other of course).

Someone shot the food. Remember: don't shoot food!

32 * 16 = 512
Your 513th plug will have to go on a sub-group, or the clip itself.

Too many is when I start to lose sight of what might actually be happening to the signal.
While it may seem strange to some, I'm a nerd at heart and kind of visualize my signal on a 'scope and I can kind of 'see' what happens to the signal when I shove it through various DSP just because I've done it so much with automotive noises. Once I can't really imagine what's happening to the signal because I'm processing it through too many DSP elements, then I have a hard time knowing what the signal might sound like and then I know I've got too many going.

still just 4 on the master yeah ron ... but route everything to a single track and use that as the master ... thatll give you 16 ... which surely is MORE than enough for a master out ???
