Just curious sometimes how much tracktion and my computer/soundcard delay the playback at any given moment -

- and I wonder if it would be informative to the user to have a meter, similar to the cpu meter, which could give a constant running numeric display of the latency delay time.

Thanks, Mike from The Coffeehouse 8)

To what end?

For example, a user could know which plugs they could use during a vocal or instrument overdub that don't increase the latency too much.

If you select a track, The exact latency is displayed in the property panel under the field called "advance" (at the bottom on the screen)
This is internal latency of the plugs, to get the overall latency you have to add your card and hardware latency to it.

Thanks Simon -

What about latency added by plugs at the main L/R out? :?

Without actually looking to see if there's a better way-- just drag copies to a blank track and use that track as your 'meter'.

Unless Tracktion, in its usual straightforward way, already includes master output latency as part of the entire signal path of a track.

Another thing - I checked the 'advance' window display trying various plugs and noticed that things like Convo Boy showed proper latency amounts but Mackie's final mix did not seem to.

Also checked to see if adding plugs at the Main L/R changed calculations in a track's 'advance' window and didn't notice it doing so.

Hmm -
