Well, perhaps it was the recommended amount - as I recall, that's what it says on the box for XP Pro. Still, the rule of thumb applies for Windows - you want at least 2x the recommended memory to be happy. Windows will run fine (That is, of course, if you equate "fine" with "slow as molasses), but then there's running those darn applications...
