MIDI event list editor - for Jules

Isn't there anyone else out there in Tracktionland who feels that a MIDI event list editor, similar to what we had in the good old Creator/Notator days, and is even present in Sonar, would be very useful in Tracktion?

Sonar is what I'm changing from, and the only thing I really miss is that ability to get right down to an individual note or controller message and edit the value or position in the list. It's a great way to find problems too, such as a note-on that is missing a note-off, or for fine-tuning a program change controller while the editor sends out the codes to the hardware or software plugin and the effect is audible in real time. As we all know, program change numbers are sometimes illogically difficult to get right unless using General Midi standard banks. The ability to scroll through program changes (possibly with the mouse wheel) while a pre-defined note is sent to the VST instrument or the hardware MIDI device, would be lovely. The ability just to drag the controller code up or down the list to make sure it gets sent just before the first note you want changed, rather than just after, would also be fantastic.

The list is merely an editable scrolling text list, with columns for position (bar:beat:tick etc), note number or controller code, the interpretation of the code next to it, (eg "Volume" "Pan" "Program Change" etc) and the value if it's a controller, eg volume, velocity, etc.

If Jules is reading this - any chance of looking at something like this? For those of us who work more in MIDI than in audio, it would be a very nice addition.

Thanks for a great program, and for possibly considering my suggestion. :)

2nd that! - theres room to put a little windowlet in the properties area for midi clips I think....

I'll add my vote. Sometimes, an event list is just about the only (and easiest) way to track down an errant command.

Quadruple that! If only I had an event important enough to make onto a list!

I think it would be nice to come up with a new way of presenting things. I agree that it would be helpful, but the old way is useless for some people. For me, and to keep with Tracktion's ease of use, I would ask for an event filter to only view say note-ons or whatever. And maybe even a little graphic icon for each type of message for quick sorting, and maybe a search tool. This may all be quite difficult to do, but it would be nice to have.

Its true that that without filters and sorts event lists can get pretty crazy what with thousands of cc points... and koolkeys is exactly right that the usual list is not exactly in keeping with Ts ease of use or left to right paradigm neither. Bears some thinking about...

That´s been included in Haydxn Features Request list long time ago!!!!!

OK - so it seems that I'm not the only one :) An editable list should not be too hard to implement (said the non-programmer... ;)). You could also have a filtered view, showing only those event you were chasing, e.g. Vol, Program Change, or Note On/Off, for example. Perhaps, just to put the icing on the cake, an error-checker also - whereby certain errors, such as a note on without a corresponging note off, or a pedal on without a pedal off, could be identified and highlighted (should that be 'highlit'??)

Of course, being able to drag an event code up or down would be vital, and also just right-click to add in a new event at the cursor, with perhaps a pop-up list of common events.... hmm, just musing here :)

Any chances of something like that, Jules? Pretty please? For all your loyal little Tracktioneers? :)
