Thanks Rob. I was a bit startled by these huge gaps, because I was entering demisemiquaver notes for a cabasa sample :-o
Coffee please, black, no sugar.

the author of the T2 user guide wrote:After the note has been added, the play-head will jump forward to the next snap position, ready for a new note to be input.
and he also wrote:To insert a rest, or space, in the clip press the ` key. This will cause the play-head to jump to the next snap position, without any note being entered.
unless im being thick (and it wouldnt be the first time) im NOT seeing this behaviour ... playhead movement and rest insertion seem to depend upon note length selected and NOT zoom / snap level ...

goddamn it ..

t2 uses some kind of weird, nonstandard windows programming in the keyboard control stuff, because I tried to use autohotkey to make some cool step editing macros, and even those wont work =( ... for instance the only way to send a left arrow key to tracktion seems to be by physically pressing the left arrow key =((

damn!

Post

hmmmnnn ... second time today T2s handling of keypresses has come up in threads for me ...

... JULES ... if youre here ... any comments ???

ok, remapkey.exe worked ... to some extent

I mapped the left arrow key to where the left alt normally resides, and then put v as rest and c as undo

so I figured I could quickly press lalt and c to jump a step back .. BUT

a new problem. if there is a rest in the melody, undo will jump over the rest and undo the last /note/ played ..

btw, it would be nice if the snap resolution and notelength could be locked to match, too.

I'll look into that.

I don't think so. I've used MKey to inject replaced keycode combinations before without any problems.

I took a quick look at the step editor and not knowing how it should be used, I moved on. I am curious as to one would go about really using the step editor.

arrow keys, left hand
midi keyboard, right hand

are you joking? thats how its done! you set the note lengths for say drums, or bass lines... i mean im not being sarcastic

Post

fair enough ... but in response to a question from someone apparently not even clear on the distinction between the step entry method and a 'standard' piano roll its not going to mean much really ???

If I don't have a keyboard does it serve any purpose? I guess if I use mkey it would make it more functional.

mkey would be no use in this case since it is a VST itself and sits in the filters area ... you need an input that can show up on the left-hand side of the EDIT page ...

.. if you want to use the step editor without a real MIDI keyboard youre going to need a combination of a standalone virtual keyboard ...

... outputting to a virtual MIDI cable that will show up as a normal MIDI input in tracktion ...
