With waves xnoise, try raising the threshold and lowering the reduction instead of the other way around. This will not induce the dreaded robot sound and you will get rid of most noticable background noise.

A multiband compressor/expander, in addition to providing a lot of control over a sound, also works great as a noise reduction tool. We include a preset for that in our MultiDynamics plug-in.

i love noise - i would make it louder :hyper:

 :hihi: :hihi: :-o

It'll cost you more than a dedicated plugin, but if you've been considering Adobe Audition for other reasons, Audition has a pretty decent noise plug.

years ago, i used samplitude and was pretty happy with the NR provided there.

waves C1 gate, preset: Gate Noise Reducer, follow, Waves C1 gate, preset: Calssic gate.
Sorry my english

Dude..best f**king noise reduction plugin on the market is f**king soundsoap by BIAS software. You don't even need the pro version...that thing constantly amazes me. i've cleaned up so many friends' old recordings that were made on little crap tape recorders...just click the learn button and tune to your specifications. easy as that. more than worth the money.

peace!

Have you tried the Dynamics or VST Dynamics plugins that come with Cubase SX2? Would they work for you? The price is right if you already own Cubase SX 2.

Well.
That's not noise reduction. That's noise gate. Completely different concept.

At extreme levels of threshold and reduction" every NR plugin will sound like sh*t. Sorry.
Oh yes, i can confirm that in case of Waves-Denoiser. :-o Sounds like Spektral Delay from Native Instruments ..

I disagree, try using a condenser mic in an apartment with a large window that is right next to a busy street.

I can sometimes have a -40db noise floor on a bad day.
as do I! I record with a condenser mic in an apartment with windows next to a busy street...I never get that kind of shitty noisefloor...and if I get any crap in the recording, I just edit it out in a wave editor rather than use noise reduction.

I wouldn't say completely. :-)

A multiband processor may not have some of the specific features of a noise reduction tool (spectral analysis, noise learn, etc.) and MultiDynamics is a time domain processor (while it appears some of the noise reduction plug-ins are FFT/frequency domain based).

But the concept is similar that you are setting threshold/reduction/attack/release etc. for individual frequency ranges, and in many cases you can achieve similar noise reduction results.

Post

That finally would mean: filtering (damping) out the noise with multidynamics.
Well. Right. Thats time domain.

Wouldn't that finally reduce all the spectral content, which exactly the same frequency range as the noise has?

But noise reduction usually means frequency domain (based on fingerprint technique) where you virtually can "filter out" everything what the fingerprint describes including hum and buzzing.
