Record/Playback at the same time

I want to play tracks that I've made in tracktion and the record along with them, but when I have an input and an output enbles simultaneously then the previously recorded track sounds like mush, any suggestions?

What sound card are you using? Maybe it's a crap card that doesn't support full duplex? I know the Soundblasters didn't for a long time.

Are the sample rates identical? Any VSTs on the recorded track? Do you have any track-level routing, or is everything going to the default output? Maybe you have loopback (aka local monitoring) enabled and it's somehow getting back to the record input?
