For now im leaving tracktionland. Ableton live fits my needs better (no, i don't make loop music ;) ).. it's tracktion's two rendering bugs that have forced the decision.. if they were fixed tacktion would have been just as good for me as live, and i'd have continued using it.

Stuff i'm going to miss and might mean i'll be back later:
  • Rack filters.

Being able to arbitrarily re-pitch audioclips by stretching them on the timeline.

Audio fader handles that are draggable on the timeline.
Stuff apart from Ts rendering bugs that makes Live an attractive choice for me (there's not much):
  • Ease of reversing audioclips without leaving the arrange window

I use live anyway for my live sets so its handy not to have to 'export' material from a diff sequencer to load into a live set.
I'm not posting this to provoke arguments flaming etc. I'm posting incase jules/beno/any other tracktion peeps are reading this cos i think it might be useful for them to know.

You've been a standup kind of guy. I think the render bug is way overblown, and the minute you stretch or warp something in Live beyond its original pitch, you've done far worse audio destruction. ;)

BUT,

Everyone not only has the right to, but NEEDS to explore other options from time to time. Best of luck!

thanks lm.

Yeah, youre right.. the recently discovered rendering bug doenst really make a difference to my choice..

But the older one (where pitched-up clips distort when rendered) is a big factor for me.

I'm very close to make a switch from Tracktion myself. The major reason is the rendering bugs which makes the software truly unusable for me, it really does. Also my hope of it getting fixed anytime soon is fading.

Whether I move to logic or Live is another question...

Well I took a quick look at ableton, but I don't have the energy to look further. I've already bought Tracktion. So for me, I am simply on vacation from music until T2 can render. I think of it as a pre-order, and I am hoping the software I bought will be released soon so I can use it for the first time. Some of you don't think the rendering probs are a big deal, and that is great for you. But some of us are using good equipment, and working with acoustic sounds. For such a thing, it is a big deal.

I have T2, Logic and Live... They all have their strengths and weaknesses... Logic on a strong machine, is pretty awesome... It does everything, but at the expense of creativity IMO... it's a little overkill for the average person, but a workhorse if you need strong midi... Live, is just fun... if that's what your after... It's a better audio looping tool than anything else, although 5.0 may change that further still... It can't replace a sequencer though to me! T2 has a lot of capability, to do everything, with just the right combination of creativity (simplicity) and power... if a few usability issues are solved, and the basic features that are there run flawlessly... it would be in a class by itself!

My .02

Live, is just fun... if that's what your after...
another post making live sound like a hobbyists looping toy.. well thats ok, i'm not going to argue this point again :)

Some people would rather have fun with their music software... especially if they don't use it to make a living! Like me! :) Live is certainly capable of doing anything you want... and I've made some complex songs with it... with the limitations more a cpu issue than anything else... but I'm using it on a Mac!

My comment was not meant to say that it wasn't capable, more that it was a different way of doing things... with less emphasis on endless "legacy" features, and more on spontaneous creativity! :D

I'm looking forward to Live 5.0 myself!

i see. sorry to have misunderstood. it was the 'just' in 'just fun' that made it sound a little dismissive in the first post.

I'm hearing this a lot recently, I have put off and put off trying Live but i think i may be falling behind so i may check it out.

I use Acid so i have always looked at Live and thought naaaah it can't be better than Acid.

Having "tried" all other DAWs I could find for Mac I bought and am sticking with T2 for one reason only and that's it's speed of interface. I just do live band tracking of the band I'm in, with very few plugins and no midi at all, but lots and lots of tracks. Everything from Garageband to Live to Logic all bogged down my machine after about 12-16 tracks and become all but un-useable, but T2 keeps chirping away happily with 20+ (this on a fairly slow, limited RAM, slow HD PBook). T2 may have a few small issues, but it seems very well programmed and optimized at it's core. It has never crashed on me despite intense abuse and though the whole "networked drive"/WAV thing is annoying as hell it's certainly not a showstopper for me.

Anyway, we're getting some great recordings with T2 and I'm loving it so thanks developer(s)! :)

Since I've switched to hardware synths, T2 has been working pretty well for me. I just mix down and master in T2 so the various MIDI bugs don't cause me an issue, and I guess I have a tin ear because I haven't had any issues with dumping out stereo WAVs and burning 'em to CD.

They'll get the bugs fixed eventually, although being a Big Company now it's going to take a while. If I get all pissed off, I own an eXT license and I'll just switch to that! :hihi:

Ever since I got a copy of tapeit2, the render bug is meaningless. I tapeit in 32 bit, and then render in soundforge. My mixes are sounding great.

I love the speed of tracktion. It loads up really fast and i rarely ever have to freeze a vst or effects chain. I ca basically go off and do whatever i want, and not worry about my CPU getting chirpy.

20 bucks for a workaround is way better for me then dropping a grand on another sequencer.

Great. Have fun with Live. Go make some great music.

But whatever you do, dont keep coming back here just to tell us how "live" does something, or how great "live" is. Nobody wants to hear that shit. I switched from Cubase to Tracktion two years ago but I dont go to the Cubase forum talking about how great Tracktion is. I've seen people proclaim they're "leaving the forum" but then pop up just to talk shit about Tracktion, or try to turn Tracktion into their current host  .

If you're gonna go then go. You're welcome to come back when you wanna make music faster and easier than every before. :D ;)

PS: Since you're leaving, I always meant to tell you that your webdesign is Dope! You're very talented.

If i do come back here it's because i'm still open to the possibility of tracktion becoming the sequencer most suited to my way of working. I think that could still happen.

And: why wouldn't i post making suggestions for tracktion improvements when i see things that (imo) are done better in other hosts?.. i think this is what you mean by:
try to turn Tracktion into their current host
, sorry, but ideas in DAW development get passed around.. i don't understand why suggestions inspired by other softs would piss anyone off.

If i post back i won't do so just to brag about my favourite new sequencer (give me some credit!).

I know myself better than to proclaim i'm leaving the forum (i still want to keep an eye on whats going on here).. heh maybe i should have qualified 'tracktionland' :D

(and thanks for the compliment :) )
