What's all this recent "Render is crummy talk"?
Did something change from T1 to T2 (still haven't taken advantage of the upgrade - I'm on Win98SE)?

Take a look at one of the many previous threads... the rendering is crummy in T1 too.
Someone should give us some idea as to when this will be fixed. Week? Month? Year? I can't wait forever, and Tapeit doesn't want to do anything other than 96khz

crummy is a bit harsh ... and exactly how many T1 users moaned about it until it was spotted and pinned down thanks to some thorough testing by both the beta team and eagle-eared end-users ???
we WILL be the first to know as soon as a fix is in place ... i KNOW its frustrating if your one of the few this IS a showstopper for ... but to take every opportunity to bad-mouth the product isnt really helping you know ???
(and ... yes ... im aware T2 is FAR from perfect ... but i can live with that ... and anyway ... which sequencer IS that good ??? )

'crummy' is a huge overstatement. It's called a 'bug' simply because it doesn't function exactly as it should. Really, it IS a bug, but I highly doubt that if it wasn't brought to people's attention, that anyone would have noticed.
What happens, if I understand correctly, is that at around -90dB (that's REALLY quiet, by the way), tails of signals (such as a reverb) don't terminate smoothly.
I mean, if a -90dB tail that looks a bit gibbly when you zoom in to sample level and use analysis tools really does your nut in, I guess that's the end of the story for you. But for many of the rest of us, it's something we wouldn't have noticed in a lifetime of sequencing with our favourite app.
It doesn't affect the raw files, either, so when the bug DOES get fixed (and I'm sure it's a priority) your current work isn't tainted. Also, using TapeIt or similar is quite a viable alternative in the meantime. It seems to me that Live users, in particular (and eXT users?) have been using tools like TapeIt for ages to do their final renders anyhow, the built-in tools not being up to the task, either.

as far as i understood tracktion throws away all signal below -90db. when the signal internaly is a number between -1.0 and 1.0 if rounds all numbers between (not exactly, just to show) -0.01 and 0.01 to zero. so it affects ALL signals (but in days of mp3 we are used to accept lost bits in our music
)

You know, I made a big deal a while back when I found out that the noise floor of rendered 16bit files in Tracktion was -90db's. But then I had a couple of studio sessions where I brought in my Tracktion tracks all rendered to separate files. When I sat infront of the SSL 9072 I noticed the meters only went down to -56 or so. And the engineer complemented me on the quality of the sound of each track. So whatever is going on with the rendering thing, its not stopping anybody from making music.Lunch Money wrote:'crummy' is a huge overstatement. lunch @ another thread
btw. it's not a showstopper for me
so mp3 is a somehow crippled audiofile ?! just tell me the different.If you're collaborating on a 'serious' project, Mp3 just won't cut it anyhow

Aldi, that's just brutal. First that you'd go out of your way to track down a thread from who knows how long ago (at least a few weeks), but mainly that you don't understand why MP3 won't cut it for 'serious' collabs.
<shudder>
Now you're not only a troll, but finding reasons to try to pick arguments with me.
I suggest you do a bit of research on MP3, and you'll get your answer.

It's only a big deal for me because I work on a large variety of stuff and I like to open up the disk space after I'm sure I've edited a long improv down to a few useable minutes of audio. This requires rendering in T2 so it defeats the purpose if I can't throw away the original file because I'm going to have to save it to rerender it later, so I have to use a VST recorder. It would be more convenient just to use T2's renderer.
Anyone know what Jules' attitude is about this? Does he acknowledge it and call it a priority?

Nobody has ever complained about this before on my tunes at least.
Seriously, -90 dB? Maybe someone isn't using their dynamic range properly instead of blaming a -90 dB noise floor.

I agree with the sentiment that the low level bug shouldn't a problem for most people.
but i also agree with fakefake that since t1, tracktion's rendering is crummy, no overstatement. That's on account of the re-pitched clip bug. for me it has made Ts render unuseable (ymmv).. which is as crummy as it gets.
