Trying to see if I should get a dual core or not...

Post

g4 or g5 ...there is a difference..what I gather is that g5 with dual proc are like as if the two where just one ...so you don[t havew that thinggy back on os-9 with the g4(remember software had to have a special feature for it to work on one)

maybe you should ask in the ableton forum
If your plugin is a Synth-edit/synth-maker creation, Say So.
If not Make a Mac version of your Plugins Please.

No Live does NOT support dual processors period .
Doesn't support Hyperthreading either or have any SSE/SSE2 or Altivec optimised code in it either.
(Just so you know).

Yes it can but only the native Effects and Instrument plugs will rewire into DP .
As long as you're aware of that one limitation you're fine.
So no 3rd Party Audio Units or VSTi's will rewire with Live as slave into DP.
You'll either have to use them in DP itself of Freeze/Render the tracks to audio that use them before rewiring.

Two processor have been around for a few years now and dual cores are here to stay, Is ableton milking the cow??????

Writing a multi-threaded app is a *lot* harder than writing a single-threaded app. I'm sure Ableton has plans to support dual core/cpu but I'm guessing they didn't think they could get it done in time for Live 5.

The new freeze function should ease the pain considerably though.

Freeze alone is worth 500 dollars, cause you need a new processor to handle the the minimum of two z3ta pigs. :dog:
