Tracktion Software

Is there no way to monitor through Tracktion without arming for recording?? I can't record an outboard synth to audio without recording the midi track I am playing. How can I monitor a hard synth through Tracktion, and record say, a guitar track without recording the track the synth is on also. I don't see a way around it.

select the input device and choose "enable end-to-end from this device but don't sctually record" (or something like that!) from the drop down menu in the properties area.

i thought the same but before posting i thought i'd give it a whirl - if you disarm the input you no longer hear it, regardless of end-to-end setting. which is a surprise!

if nothing else, one workaround would be to set the input's trigger level to 0dB when you don't want to record from it. even tho a clip will appear as the record head moves, as long as the input signal doesn't go about 0dB nothing will actually be recorded.

i guess T needs some kind of 'direct' path to the master out for the disconnected/disarmed inputs.

I guess there's no way around it. Tracktion seems pretty nice, but some things are just done bass ackwards. Oh well, no money for Mackie.

I had a similar problem, in that my Audiowerk8 would send whatever signal was going from the outputs back to the inputs, thus recording every audio track with everything else. I circumvented this by plugging the input cables in to the aux 1&2 sends on my 1202VLZPro, and only turning the aux send levels up on the channel I wanted to record with all other channels zeroed.

well whats the harm in recording a bunch of junk - command M deletes the source when you're done - not such a disaster...

sorry if im being thick here (wouldnt be the first time) but im struggling to visualise your set up and what youre trying to do ...

... just for my own peace of mind (and on the off chance i can actually help) any chance you could humour me and run through the process youre following and how your gear is set up ???

Ok, lets say I have a midi track triggering external synth A. I have external synth A's audio going into track 1 and monitoring through tracktion, so I can monitor throught some VST fx. I don't want to record it to audio just yet.

So I have synth A arpeggiating along. Now I set up external synth B's audio going into track 2. I dial up a cool pad patch and I want to record it straight to audio. So I press record, but damn it's recording synth A also. And the midi track I am using to route midi to synth B. :/

I guess what T needs is separate monitor and record arm buttons.

Are you aware that you can use the channel inserts on 1 through 4 for direct outs on the 1202? Probally, but I thought I'd check. That's how I record the audio output of my Korg NX5R without recording the midi if I want to

If you use the inserts you bypass the channel strip and output directly from that channels preamp which is a good thing IMHO

It probably is a better idea for me, as I don't use the channel strip EQs for tracking, not with free VST EQs which are far more precise and flexible. I find the Mackie preamps to be very clear and transparent.
