High CPU load in T2

Hi (haven't posted in a while), I upgraded to T2 a few weeks back and just started playing with it the other day only to find that compared to T1, T2 is considerably more CPU hungry on my machine. Anyhow, here are my machine specs: G4 1.3 GHz, 786 MB DDR 333 RAM, 60 GB 5400 RPM HDD (laptop), Edirol UA-25 USB Audio Interface, OS X 10.3 Panther. I created a 4 track song, 3 recorded audio, one MIDI, with the MIDI routed to an instance of RMIV and a reverb, and 2 of the audio tracks going to compressors and an EQ. (1 VSTi, 4 VST total) This generated about an 80% CPU load. After seeing this, (and encountering clicks, pops, and drop outs) I checked out a similar arangement in T1, and got no interuption in playback or recording, and about a 40% CPU load. Is this a known issue with T2 or is there something I didn't setup correctly? I had no other processes of consequence running in the background according to the Activity Monitor, and a "ps" from the terminal. RAM usage seemed fairly reasonable too. Thoughts? I really like T2's improved MIDI, but one more VST or another track would have killed my session. This seems a little ridiculous, as I had edits with 15+ tracks and a ton of VSTs running fine in T1 (without freezing). I can't be hamstrung in T2 at 4 tracks can I?

Could It be a usb vs firewire thing. I too use an edirol USB device (UA-1000). could edirol be causing a problem too?

I wondered about that too, but I tried outputing to the internal audio in the powerbook (Edirol disconnected) and that didn't make a difference. Also, I was using the Edirol with T1 as well with good results, so I don't think it's the audio interface.
