Do you put one volume/pan filter on the actual waveform and one in the bank of filters so you can change the overall volume later, or do you just put two filters in the filter bank and use the first one for automation and the second for overall volume?
I ask because I was wondering if there's a better way as those are the only two I've found to work how I like (being able to change the overall volume after doing all the automation).
The first way seems to have a bug that the filter won't move to the volume level of the automation when I move the cursor there (it only moves when the song is playing), and this is my preferred way so it's kind of frustrating.
Any thoughts would be nice.

I use the 'two filters' on the track method. One for automation and one for second-guessing my automation. 
And with my version of Tracktion, the automation curve tracks where ever the cursor moves, and the automated level/pan filter displays the correct level, not just in play mode.
I put a vol/pan filter on a waveform only when it is way too loud (never happens) or way too soft.
The automation in Tracktion is awesome.

I use two filters on the track. Its just more flexible that way for me. If I need to adjust the volume of a small section of audio I just split it out and use the properties , you can adjust the volume of each clip separately from there.

Yes, I use that too, but sometimes I just need more gain. Especially, when I want that 'everything louder than everything else' sound. And it's always fun to throw a comp, eq, chorus, flanger, verb, SIR, limiter and vol/pan filter on each waveform and come here and complain how S L O W Tracktion is!audio clips have their own volume / pan control anyway (in the properties panel)

I tried the scale curve thing for a bit, but the only problem is when doing automation I like to keep the line at right around 0db and go from there so that I don't get confused about the levels later, if that makes sense.
It seems everyone does it the same as me, I just wish there was a volume automation for each track seperate from any filters so that it wouldn't be so crowded come time for plugins and such.
