Hi everyone,
I have a midi clip. I would like to have the length of the midi clip be one bar in the time. Like at the top it says
"bar1----------bar2---------bar3----------etc."
i want to make my midi clip line up into the first bar, so if i loop it the midi will always start on a bar marking. How would i do this?
Thanks,
CRG23
(Sorry its a dumb question, but im just getting in to digital audio production)

To make the length of the midi clip equal one bar, first select the midi clip by clicking on it. Then in the context sensitive menu at the bottom of the screen, look for the button marked "Auto tempo". Click on that, then choose "set the edit's tempo based on this clip's length", then from the next menu choose "Assume clip length=1 bar"
There's obviously other options you can play with there too.
To make the midi clip line up on the first bar, mouse over the top of the midi clip, on the little bar at the top of it until the mouse pointer changes to a hand, then click and drag it to wherever you want. If you make sure "snap" is enabled in the bottom right the clip will snap to the bar lines.

Hmm, that didn't work quite right. It adjusted the temp but the timecode doesnt align with the midi clip. I want to have it so that i can have a clip start at bar1 and end exactly on bar2.
How could i do this in tracktion? Chicos system only slowed and speeded the tempo. I want to adjust the top markers.

I'm not sure i get what you're tying to achieve here, but try this instead;
Hold down the Alt key, and then click and drag the coloured arrow at either the top right or left of the toolbar of the midi clip. That will stretch the notes in the clip, you can drag it till it fits the markers.

Do what Chico previously suggested but FIRST go to timecode and uncheck 'remap clip positions when tempo is changed', then it should work!

That may work, but depending on what he's trying to achieve it might bugger up the position of the notes in the midi clip. Especially if the tempo gets dropped, he's likely to lose a load of midi notes from the clip.frankvg wrote:Do what Chico previously suggested but FIRST go to timecode and uncheck 'remap clip positions when tempo is changed', then it should work!
But one of the two methods should end up where he wants to be, depending on where that is, of course ...

Okay, whatever you do, DON'T uncheck 'remap clip positions'!
Was this enough to confuse you even more?

Umm?
I'm a bit confused now.
But yes, I figured out how to stretch the midi clips. However i dont want to change the midi clip, i want the bars on the timecode to correspond with the beginning and end of the clip bye stretching out the timecode and changint he BPM.

Perhaps if you explain what you're trying to achieve I'll be able to understand how that's different from the two ways i've already suggested to do it?

Ok, I will try. All the clips in my song are either 5 or 10 seconds long. It is alot easier to line up the timing if beats and bars and everything line up with the timing in the midi clip. So what I want to do is make the timecode at the top match the end and beginnings of my midi clips.
So exactly on bar one. I want to have a 5 second clip. Then at the end of that clip, it will be bar 2. I pretty much want everything to line up nicely.

Okay: let's try again!
First you do what chico suggested first.
Choose 'autotempo' and clip length= 1bar.
Second you do what chico suggested next: alt-drag the right handle to snap to one bar (make sure you have snap enabled).
So you have to do both in that particular order. It is a bit strange but there's probably a good reason for it (Jules....?)
Hope that helps.

I don't know if you're helping him but I've learned a lot.
