I'm already there woolyloach I just bought eXT. Its missing some features compared to Tracktion, but whats there is more useable for me, and development is at such a breakneck pace! eg. Folder tracks. I have projects in Tracktion with over 25 tracks, and in 1024 resolution its not much fun keeping track of these arrangements... No probs in eXT

Still I have tons of unfinished projects in Tracktion, so I would like to see fixes. Though actually once I finish those projects I'll be very tempted to sell it... No matter what excuses anyone invents, development has gone hugely downhill since Mackie got involved.

Yeah, eXT has some annoyances as well (no PDC in eXT makes some things complex) but folder tracks make up for it! I end up having a MIDI track for each drum half the time, and when you have 10-12 tracks of percussion alone Tracktion gets.. unwieldy.. to say the least. And yeah, 25 tracks in 1024 is not going to make anyone a happy camper!

The problem of being part of a big company is that they will control the release schedule to a great extent, even if the engineer(s) have the product ready to go. The company I work for has to plan releases around "critical dates" for trade shows etc. (ugh). And then there's getting things through QA, Marketing.. shudder!

Jorgen doesn't have that problem, so he can dump out a new release or a BETA any time he feels like it (which is scary often.. and I thought I was a insane coding machine!!)

... started off in T1 but after it seemed to stall development-wise i ended up back with eXT (was a hardcore massiva fan / evangelist back in the day and MIGHT even have had a tiny stake in the original idea that was to become eXT) and loved its flexibility ... ended up getting frustrated by some of its workflow quirks (which for me at least) werent offset by things like folder tracks and moved back to T1 porting all my live eXT projects over in the process ...

... TBH ...

... there are things in both apps that still delight and frustrate me ... but nothing in either one that actually stops me using them other than personal preference ...

(and with the beta of live 5 just installed i might even switch AGAIN ... )

Yes, I agree neither is close to perfect yet. The lack of PDC and time/tempo automation in Energyxt is a pretty big downer. But I just have more confidence in Jorgen to get stuff done at this point.

There is still alot to like about the product of Tracktion. But the community and support around it leave alot to be desired.

I used to post here every time I found a bug, sometimes Jules would reply. Now, I don't even bother posting bugs (of which I could name probably a dozen off the top of my head, many held over from T1) because there is almost never a response from Jules/Mackie, instead a bunch of evangelists accuse bug-reporters of 'whining' and 'groundhogging'. The whole attitude surrounding eXT's development is unbelievably more positive (well except for Jens of course )

sorry ... but its this kind of thing REALLY winds me up ...

... yeah ... there ARE some T2 users like that (equally there are some people taking EVERY opportunity to pointlessly bash T2 here) ...

(i guess all sequencers - heehee ... barring eXT obviously - have these groups of users)

... BUT ... there is also a core of users here (and i would usually count myself amongst them) who OPENLY ACKNOWLEDGE THE CURRENT SHORTCOMINGS (AND STRENGTHS AS WE SEE THEM) OF T2 but still try to help out with user problems ... always try to test / confirm / report / workround bug reports ...

Obviously not everyone is like that pHZ - and I've not got that impression from you certainly.

But thats my general impression of the community right now. I could handle flamers and whatnot if Mackie/Jules appeared to even care about bug reports, but thats not the case. The combination of a company that doesn't (appear to) care and a userbase that is frankly fractured has diluted my enthusiasm for trying to help make Tracktion better.

Once upon a time Tracktion was a young, promising application. It was a wonder to the few people who used it. Nevermind the features - it worked like you imagined a music software should.

The people who used it (called Tracktioneers) formed a small, lively community around the friendly, brilliant developer. Developement was rapid, support was speedy and life were good. The little community flourished.

The Tracktioneers truly loved the software they were using - how could'nt day? it was everything they dreamed of. So they praised it whereever they went - this was, to them, the best music software ever. A miraculous creation - how can anybody not love it?
The praises they sung worked their influence and more people joined the community. But some of these newcomers did not see the wonder for what it was - they were promised the best music software and they wanted it, and wanted it now.

Problem was, you see, that every user had his own vision of what's "best" and what's "important" and "urgent". And so the bickering began, and the flame wars and the calling of names. Our community wasn't as happy as it once was.

The developer, who grew weary of the bickering and the flames, retired to seclusion. The community was left in chaos and confusion.



The story does not end here. For rumors started to circulare around our troubled community: "There is hope", they said "a new one. A young, promising application. A wonder. And a community is formed around a friendly, brilliant developer. Developement is rapid, support is speedy and life is good. Let us go there".

So it goes.

it isn't such a mirical. after all it was public beta testing with fast feedback and talking about ways to handle things. not more (to me) and that's what i (and many others) loved. everyone can do it (live, ext, reason) but not everyone does.

I for one do not have time or mental energy to learn a new DAW every six months - I write music and there is so much to learn even just about stringing notes together and I am more than half way through my life in all probability. I want to be able to render my ideas quickly with a minimum of hassling with the computer and I want software that will not be a bottleneck.

I surveyed the landscape and checked out more or less everything out there and switched to T. T is simple and great and I am just getting up to speed with after 3-4 months. I want the f**king software to survive and thrive so here's flame for two groups here: 1) people pushing alternatives be it Live or EXT or whatever - DO IT SOMEWHERE ELSE. you are entitled to your f**king opinion opinion but do it in another forum. 2) - Mackie SPEAK! - keep your people informed about your thinking - waste a little time to let us know that you hear us and are working. Don't leave all the work to Greg its not fair!

so: T is a great product with a great future - I'm here to learn news and give and recieve tips and suggestions. If you are too then peace.
