He does not have the same trouble with the JUCE forum. Must be easier to cope with fellow developers than users?

I saw this commercial on TV a long time ago that said...

When I worked as a computer tech, we'd refer to the customers as the end-losers. ;) Well, only if they called us in for really stupid crap like changing their monitor resolution from 1024 X 768 to 800 X 600. :D

There are two essential rules of management. One: the customer is always right. Two: they must be punished for their arrogance.

USERS SUCK! Except for me, I'm pretty cool.

i've worked in bars for a lot of my working life, and generally the rule i apply is "the customer is usually pissed" and therefore wrong. screw them, they tend to be arseholes :D
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Post

Oh, is it time to tell my working-in-a-bar-customers-are-twats story? All righty then ...

So i'm working behind this bar, years ago, and this dickhead comes up snapping his fingers, shouting that he's not been served yet, and actually reaching across the bar and grabbing people's sleeve as they go by with drinks for other customers. Absolute tool.

Anyway, i go up to him, and go "so, what can i get you?" and he really loud and obnoxious, still snapping his fingers in my face, and saying things like "Oh finally, you noticed there were customers, eh? About time, thought i was going to die before i got a drink" etc. Even the other punters were looking at him, like, you're a tool ...

So he orders a couple of beers, and a whisky, and a baileys and coke. And the baileys drinkers amongst you can probably already see where this is going ....

So i say "Was that a baileys and coke?"

"Yeah, and get a move on, c'mon kid, i've not got all day to baby you"

Smashing.

So off i pop and pour him his drinks, ice in the baileys glass, nice measure of baileys in the glass, bring it back over to the bar right in front of him, and add the coke. And the baileys curdles into lumps in the glass.

So he stares at me, I stare back at him, he stares at the glass, so do i, he stares at me, i stare at him, and i tell him how much the round cost. And he pays it and f**ks off.

:D

So i've told the rest of the staff this, and we've had a bit of a laugh about it, and lo and behold, twenty minutes later he's back, with the same act, the same attitude.

So I wander up to him, and say "What can I get you?" and he's STILL with the whole "f**king hell son, take your time, why don't you?", even though he's got served straight away this time. Anyway, he starts placing his drinks order

Two pints of lager
A Guinness
A straight whisky, no ice, none of that shit you put in it son
AND ...

A Baileys ......

and lemonade

maybe he's trying to be a developer and ...be a developer. im sure being a developer is quite unlike being an end user. why would he want to sit around here all day and read all of the complaints? or even post a reply and get things all stirred up? im sure he doesn't need to read for information on his software i this forum. he developed it.

he most likely has a team of info collectors, im sure... and, if so, he is then given the condensed version of what's going on. or maybe he lurks and reads and gets the info he needs and moves on it without having to waste hours a day honoring everyones petty needs. im sure, probably a little of both. and he has to live life. im sure he gets enough computers while he's working on our bug fixes and the like. after work, hes not going to want to come in here and get all bothered.

whatever he does, i hope he's doing fine. i have a feeling something nice is getting ready to happen for us. he's probably working on some really great new feature or another app for us to gather round and worship.

but what do i know? im only an end user. but a happy one, and a satisfied one. and im still on t1. and loving it.

There will be a posting by Jules on kvr.

Don't you have to have an old groundhog chanting as well, then?

That's funny because on the rare occasions I have to call a computer tech person they almost invariably have no f*&^ing idea about anything to do with computers...

... "Uh... hrm... lemme get my manager for that, please hold".
