World Percussions

This is the first time I start a thread. Hope someone will help...
I'd like to get some decent samples of drums/percussions of Asia (Taikos, etc), Africa (Djembe, etc) and maybe others (Irish Bohdran, Native American drums...)
Now if the DR-008 or RM-IV come with good sets of these I would be interested in getting either. Would any owner of these care to enlighten me?
I've already spent a fair bit of money on software lately so I'm trying to save in that department. I don't want to buy another synth and then find out that I have to spend again for more libraries. I'd rather just get the libraries and import them in the synths I have already or get cheaper synths like the RM-III or DK+.
So if anyone can suggest some sample libraries or ROMplers that have these sounds that would be appreciated, too.
To give you an idea, I wish to spend around a couple hundred $US max for the whole thing at this time (synth + samples or just samples).
Thanks to all.

My DR-008 came with lots of downloadable ethnic percs.
Some were single shot kits, others were multisampled.
I used them a lot until I got RMX.
The DR008 downloadable kits have enough samples in them to build your own mix and match kits with, say, six types of 8" conga on a single pad, each on a different velocity trigger level.
I built my own 142mb ethnic kit form all these "spare parts"
There aren't any rare percs - mostly latin and african - but there are lots of free samples around the web. These wavs can easily be dragged into DR008 to help build kits. DR excels at this.
For $99 it represents good value if African and Latin samples are your thing, and you need a dead reliable platform to play them from.
Did I mention the sequencers built into the pads? Or the pad alternators? Cool mixer? Import facilities? But you've prob read all this stuff already

Thanks kevvvvv. So that's a plus for DR-008. The extra features you mention are bit cryptic for me at this time but I guess that would give me a whole world to explore in the future...

I was using the SR-202 wich was nice as a learning tool. I also have the Virtual Sampler wich can import pretty much anything. Something more specialised might be nicer but I could import some libraries in there if it comes to that. The quality of the sample is more important for now.DKeenum wrote:What software do you have already?
It's quite late here in Taiwan. I'll read you all in the morning. Thanks in advance.

- a simple sequencer on a pad. Hit a key and trigger a loop. You can have, say, 6 sequences on 6 different keys and jam live. Or jam the bongos live while a midi file drives the rest of the kit. Imagination and funfullness.
- the alternator makes repetitive parts become interesting. Say, a certain bongo sound plays too much the same. Using the alternator can make bongo A and bongo B alternate, or maybe play a high timbale with every fourth trigger (and maybe with delay). Combine this with multi-velocity pads and all of a sudden tracks take on a new liveliness.

Well we got the SR group buy going on including world percussion plus world percussion loops. http://www.esoundz.com/details/viewDeta ... ductID=641
Otherwise their Sonic Refill for world percussion is quite a good choice for $39 or maybe you'll find it even for less somewhere.

I promised a month or two ago to buy Doru Malaia's 230 Ethnic Drums & Percussion samples (the second URL), and finally did so a few days ago. This should be great! And if I can swing it I'll be joining the eSoundz/Sonic Reality group buy (first URL) too. Squids' deals are always worth getting in on, and he often throws in even more extras after things get started. He already has done, in fact.
And I agree with what kevvvv(*n) said about DR-008. Great drum synth/sample player, very flexible. If the group buy keeps going at the present rate, you'll be able to buy DR-008 and BOTH the eSoundz GB and Doru Malaia sample sets for around $200. Even if just a handful more people sign up for the GB in the next week and a half (ha ha), it'll still be around $230 and you'll have enough drums that if they were real instead of virtual, it would take a warehouse to store them all.

I purchased and am very pleased with the selection and quality of Doru Malaia Ethnic Drums and Percussion samples.

I wanted some of the gamelan instruments (my primary reason for the purchase), which are well represented, but the range of tonal expression in many of the other instruments gives me a whole lot more to play with. It really is a great sounds set and instrument selection and not a rehash of the same sounds I see over and over again in other sample products and specialty synths (from licensing deals, I imagine)
I got 24 bit samples on a DVD. Really good price as well.
