Annoying "Mouseclick in Arrangement" behaviour

Hi there,
a few month back I jumped on the Mackie offer for a free Tracktion 1.6
So far, it can be quite useable at times and is rather quick to work with. I have previously used Cubase SX2, wich I have sold because it doesn't fit my needs anymore. Now I'm demoing T2, and I must say, it still has some of the same (IMHO) annoyances as T1, mainly the most irritating (for me) is when you click where ever in the arrangement, the play cursor is jumping to this position. I can't seem to find a way to disable this (reading the manuals and searching the forum).
So, the question is: IS there a way or not?

Any help greatly welcomed ;)

that's just how it works :)
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

You need to practice your mouse skills if you plan on sticking with Tracktion. Another annoyance is that if you double click unintentionally you can open/close MIDI tracks for editing without meaning to. Deeply annoying.

It can probably be switched off somewhere in the rather intimidating settings page...

Tracktion's mouse and scroll implementation is... uh, unique. If you like it, you'll be hooked... if you don't, you'll be Arghhhh! I'm a Mac person who owns Logic, so I tend to think of things in that context. But YMMV. :)

True, true.

I just happen to be of the "hooked" variety.

me too. it's great that it works like that. one thing i hate about other sequencers is the need to go up to the timeline and position the cursor, or the need to drag it. also, using several sequencers between home and uni, i hate the fact that i have to remember how each program handles clicking in the timeline - for examle, cubarse has leftclick for left marker and rightclick for right marker. that just annoys me, although i can easily understand that for some that behaviour is ideal. if i want to move the cursor somewhere in a track i just click there. disco!

i  T :D

Yeah, while I am annoyed by the double click opens/shuts MIDI piano roll thing (mostly because I can't do it very well  , I do like the way you position the cursor. And I agree with you (haydxn) about hating the whole Cubase markers set-up. Uurgh :bang: !

OK, thanks for the many answers guys. To cite "DHR53" I guess I'm mhhh...(put in fav. 'f' word) then. :D
I actually really like the way cubase does it.Clicking into the timeline to position the cursor seems perfect to me, since you can position it quite precisely (or just use markers instead). There are quite some things wich are "unique" to Tracktion. Some ratrher cool, others rather ....
Well, I'll play around a bit more with 1.6, to see if I can get used to it such that it doesn't impact my workflow. I also use Ableton Live 4, wich I really like a lot, and the upgrade to ver.5 looks very promising. So maybe I'll just upgrade to Live 5 instead of T2 then, we'll see.

Again, as said earlier, thanks for your help guys ;)

Well I've spent the last two days trying to give Live 5 beta a good thrashing, and I can't for the life of me find any bugs, issues, or ways to crash the thing  . Heck, it's simply stunning!!! :D

Post

Hey headquest,
if I had more patience and time, I'd beta test Live 5 as well, but hélas, I don't feel like installing/uninstalling the diff. betas, reporting my findings, testing like hell etc. I rather wait the final release and then some (I never buy/install .00 releases :D) to see how it's turning. But it really DOES look like it'll be a great version with some features I've been waiting for since the very beginning (multiple markers, FINALLY, PDC). And I believe more in the Abletons then in Steinberg. Better support, better/faster update/bugfixing intervals, and generally I feel more respected as a customer. ;)

Cheers

If Tracktion ever switches to the Cubase-clicking-on-timeline way of doing things, I will leave Tracktion forever. I CANT STAND having to reach way up there to place my playhead. The way it works now is great. I put the playhead where I need it, when I need it.

Well, to each his own (or so), no?
Fortunately, we have such an enormous choice today for working environments, that everybody eventually finds his/her joy.
