Long live Raw Material and please come back soon
Seems to be a lot of people here are willing to let Mackie just crap on europeans, I was with a freind last night who was finally getting into using a PC to record some tracks so i showed him T2, He may not be the most advanced person when it comes to recording but he could not believe that there was no download version, He also could not believe that after looking heavily through this forum that a lot of bugs still stay in T upto a year after being found, I'm not running away from T atall just yet but needless to say i went to the shop to get some smokes and when i got back he had found downloaded and was already at the payment page for EXT, The excitement on his face was extreme and all he wants to do can be done quicker in T, The view he had gathered from this forum was one that didn't make him want to buy the product, At the moment it seems the forum is split into two types of people
1 I think Mackie are screwing this whole deal up
2 Everything with T is roses and loveliness (Or it will be if you wait for an upgrade)
I'm safely camped in no 1 and have been ever since the announcement about Mackie distribution, I think Mackie have some serious userbase issues that if not sorted out will leave such a bitter taste it may not be easy to fix, I wont personally be investing anymore time in T2 and have gone back to T for now, I have found so many bugs flaws glitchs and so on that the whole userbility that brought me to T in the first place has gone.
Well i'm ranting now but the fact that these issues are in the public domain and not just the rant of a couple of extreme users does not bid well for Mackie and in the long term RM.
I'ts a bloody shame really because i'm british and it would be nice to see something British actually working well (Nothing works in Britain including me LAZY BASTARD)

NAS, all fair points except one-- how could anyone be "surprised" that there's no download version? It's been said ad nauseum, but NO OTHER major sequencer is available via download. Why does everyone think that a 3 GB download should be an option?
For T1->T2 upgraders, there IS in fact a downloadable version, for the low price of $20. The rest of the people have to do it the same way that customers of Cubase, Sonar, Pro Tools, Logic, and other softwares have to do it. It's inconvenient for some people, and it'd be great if they'd allow a 3GB download (good luck... it's simply not feasible); however, it shouldn't be a "surprise".

I say RMS set a nice precedent with a download version for T1, why change it? It was the wave of the future to me at the time, easy and no bloat. Really, change that sleek easy instant-gratification system for the ho-hum plugins? Please

That's just one perspective. Other people (especially people new to computer-based recording) will be well pleased to get an exceptional drum sampler (with kits), a multi-instrument plug-in (Sampletank SE), and an amp simulator (Amplitube) in addition to all the other plug-ins.
Really, though... do we need to have ANOTHER discussion about the download vs. boxed version? There are good points on both sides, and we've seen them all.

I'm just responding to your point "how could anyone be "surprised" that there's no download version?" I was surprised when I heard that was to be the case. I see no *good* reason to limit it to a boxed-only version. Both, sure, bot boxed only? I don't think it was a good idea and the issues Mackie's having now with distributions supports my opinion.

Let me rephrase that-- how could a newcomer to the program, who wasn't here for the 'forward-thinking' download-only version, be surprised, when ALL OTHER major sequencers are NOT download-only.
Or more to the point:
Now that there IS a bigger size to the product (yes, including bundled plug-ins, just like other apps) it's not surprising at all that it's not available as download. Come on. Why SHOULD your friend be surprised? Not why should YOU, because I know your history, but why should your friend be? It doesn't make sense. If he demoed Cubase and was told there was no download version and he was surprised, then fine-- that's just his expectation for software in general. But to be more surprised about Tracktion than about other software? That can't be the case.
We've also already had the endless discussions about why there shouldn't be BOTH available. All it really comes down to is that some people don't need the bundled plug-ins and are finding themselves inconvenienced by it. Fine, feel inconvenienced... I don't even blame you. But at least have the objectivity to understand WHY there is only one path available. Surely you can't have forgotten all the endless discussions. You're frickin' obstinate, I'll give you that.

Dude, I understand why there's only one path, it doesn't mean I have to agree. It was a decision that could have been made differently. "But at least have the objectivity..." f**king eh, patronizing $%^^#%@&* you can be.

You know what? Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I'm being patronizing. You're like a rooster at an effing chicken-pecking party sometimes. If you understand why there's only one, then you're just being stubborn for continuing to disagree. When the reasons for having only one outweigh the reasons for having two, you're just crying because you didn't get your way.
