The Grand crashes Tracktion2

After all my other posts wondering how to find a troublesome plugin, I have honed it down to The Grand.

Which is a shame, this plug is an absolute must, I use it to compose everything and it's usually the foundation for every single track I record.

So this post asks two questions:

1.) What hoops can I jump through to still use the Grand (disable before I close a project, maybe?)

and more grimly:

2.) If there's no workaround for The Grand, what's the next best alternative to Tracktion?

Post

ok a list of options off the top of my head

1) check for the latest update (if you allready have it check back through the arcives or install the orignal from the disk & see if you still have the problem)

2) get a vst wrapper & load it in there

3) find a good replacment vst

Not a surprise to me that it's the Grand, which is notoriously buggy, though I don't recall any issues in Tracktion 1 that people mentioned.

As far as VST wrappers go, you can give eXT a try. It won't load saved information with your project until it's registered, but it's otherwise restriction-free, allowing you to at least find out if it works.

Download energyXT.
Install the VSTi version into Tracktion's plugins folder
Load energyXT as a plugin in Tracktion
Open the energyXT plugin interface
Load the grand plugin in energyXT - if it's the first plug you load it should autoconnect. There are loads of ways to load the plugin. You could configure the VST folder to that of your Tracktion plugins folder, or you could simply find the .dll file in explorer and drag it onto the energyXT screen.

Now see how that works. If it does and you like it, experiment with energyXT for a bit and you'll probably see that you want to get the full thing, and it doesn't cost much at all anyway! :)
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Thanks for the sugegstions...Interesting workaround using eXT...So I guess I could take TheGrand.dll, and any other VST's that might not be getting along with Tracktion, put them in a safe folder outside of the VSTPlugins fodler, and then load them up in eXT....

I'll give it a shot tonight and report back the results...this will be awesome if I can get Tracktion to be super-stable. I usually have to reinstall it several times each night.

Yup, try out any problem plug-ins in eXT. Hopefully that'll help.
