I picked up the nextup thing a few weeks ago(they do sell it as a download only, but it's a huge download took about 3 hours on my DSL). My reading of the license that comes with the AT&T voices is that you're screwed on redistribution of their output. But the license is written very poorly, I find it hard to believe a lawyer actually approved it. Also there is no way to read the license before installing the AT&T voices. It's certainly not available on their site.

Pretty much it looks like AT&T never really planned for people to want to use the audio their voices make except as part of some sort of automated system.

Oddly enough the freebie voices that MS (and a few others) ship out don't seem to have licenses at all. It looks like a giant mess if you want to use the wave files though. Which is too bad since that's mainly why I bought it.

So does anyone remember going to the AT&T site maybe two years ago, when there were WAY more voices available? I remember a good 2 or 3 males and females for both American (can you even call it English anymore?) and English. And seriously, I could get "Maria"(if memory serves right) to do some better than terrible Spanish. I think the French were terrible which was a real pity, nothing like making a synth voice sound all sultry and shit ;) On that note, what about a Sade voxsynth. Mmmmmmmmm...
