Let's just say that in a pinch Tracktion could not work for a particular project. What sequencer would you go to as a next-best-choice?

Actually, T2 is my second choice at the moment, but I use it to do stuff other sequencers don't or don't do well. Right now I'm using it to create midi drum tracks inline with rhythm guitar to save as loops to import into Live. I don't know of any sequencer that can do this task as well.
I'll also be using it to master my stuff since it has the awesome Mackie effects as well.

You didn't give a choice for 'other' so I'll put my other choice here:
PG Music's Power Tracks Pro Audio - which you probably never even heard of.
It's a $49 app that migrated from old days of midi-only, but never really became the bloatware that some of the others that survive from that era (i.e. Cakewalk) have become.
Has a great notation editor built in. I wish T2 had the same.
Everything else I like better in T2 and it will serve me for a long time.

well I just changed my mind *gg* I will now do all my MIDI work in FLStudio Producer and my audio work in Tracktion best of both worlds (at least from what I've seen)

I also think FL Studio should be listed. But I am no longer a Tracktion user...

eXT is first, I use T2 to handle mastering duties since I can drop effects right on clips and level every song I'm going to burn right there.
This, of course, subject to change without notice depending on releases of T2 and eXT.
Although I do think the "fish" option is the best, it wasn't listed.

I actually use Buzz second to T, or firstly depending on the mood. But there is less reson now that there are both stepchild and stepbeater.
