i have a song with multiple tracks, a few of which require that they fade in volume wise...
so i set the automation curves to allow for the volume to fade in gradually. sounds great during playback, but when it is rendered said tracks create this impossibly loud, overdrive, distorted noise which take over the entire song....
any remedy to this?

There are quite a few issues with rendering being looked into at the moment. I've read that it's a high priority and that there are a number of different issues being looked into.
I had a problem with rendering recently where the realtime playback was absolutely fine, but rendering was slightly corrupted.
I ended up buying TapeIt2 ($19). It's turned out to be an absolute steal. I even use it in a number of different applications in preference to the rendering functions already there.
However, I understand you probably don't want a solution that requires shelling out to cover something that should be working fine already. But I don't know how long before these issues will be fixed.
Have you tried rendering the song at 1x? It's one of the options in the render dialogue.

i will give the render at 1x a try and see how it goes...
what is tapeit2? i'm considering buying an external cd recorder and just run direct into that and record that way...

You can stick an instance of it either in the Master filter section of Tracktion after any mastering effects to record a WAV at the point in the chain that T2 normally does a Render, or copy it onto independant tracks if you have problems with T2's own freezing functionality.
I used to use energyXT, but TapeIt2 has no less than 4 different ways to synchronise to the song. You can set it up so that it starts recording when you press Play in tracktion.
But look into other options first (or wait for more T2 members to reply who may have more info on similar problems and suggestions). But I've been able to get round the Rendering problems with TapeIt so far. And for the cost of a few pints, it's no bad thing.

a friend tells me he doesnt have these issued when rendering in tracktion which drives me up the wall....
by the way, i'm using tracktion version 1 (that free version mackie was giving away)....and all in all i'm terribly pleased with it. its made me vastly more productive that i've ever been. a great piece of software..just wish it didnt get on my tits with this rendering nonsense...we'll see...thanks again.

Yes Voxengo recorder will work as well, and you could even use eXT to record. But TapeIt 2 has additional features, such as recording only the marked part of the song, meaning you don't have to manually stop and start recording (as ceenda already referred to)

I've only managed to sync it with the "play" function.
