i always thought vernon reid was a very innovative musician. i was always impressed with the crappy slop that he turned into guitar solos. ...and i mean that with the VERY best of intentions. please don't mistake that as bad vibes.

i bought everything they ever did, and ill buy this project if it's really going to happen. just hope they're not using any midi stuff on this album...

woot!

:D

but that'd be totally "rad" if they did an album wholey on tracktion.

gee, this thread is a real flashback to 'Sounds' magazine c. late 80s... Dan Reed, KingsX...

Never listened to any of 'em mind you, too busy with sonic youth, dinosaur, fugazi etc...

Anyone notice Rob's post count is near 5000? D'ya think he's going to throw some kind of party when it hits 5k and that's why he posted so many times with 'oops'?

Sorry Rob, if there was some underlying humor, it flew way over my head, so I must be pretty low.

Loved Living Color by the way.

KingsX were pretty abyssmal, which is too bad for a band with such potential.

Rob's a whore. Not a forum-post-count-whore. Just a whore. Sorry Rob.

Great underrated band!

Ty Tabor wasn't quite talented enough to carry all of King's X on his back. :D

I think that'll be the third time his post count has passed 5k. Every so often forums are archived so post counts drop heavily. The last major cull saw some peoples counts drop by 3 or 4 thousand in a single afternoon.

I lost about 1800 posts when the Tracktion forum was archived.
Someone shot the food. Remember: don't shoot food!

Which album(s) do you base that on? I haven't listened to them for years tbh, I might have to revisit it..

Post

I admit, it's a rather snap judgement-- I base it on the one and only album of theirs I purchased, and the fact that obviously they didn't strike a resonant chord with people. The music just lacked something... good lyrics, perhaps. ;)

The KingsX album I bought was Out of the Silent Planet. I mean, I devour music, and I don't even have discriminating tastes, beyond, "Does it give me a reason to listen to it." They simply didn't, so I didn't pursue becoming a fan of theirs.

Same deal as Dream Theatre. They both lack the exact same thing that stops them from actually being meaningful bands.

Hmm.. I hardly ever pay any attention to lyrics.. thats probably why I can't write them.

Good music without the 'right' lyrics is wasted on me. I think some truly awful lyrics are actually quite wonderful in a way, but they have to somehow seem right to me. If a lyric leaves me cold, I don't consider it to be a good lyric, so it's all pretty subjective at the end of the day. Brilliant music with lyrics that seem like an afterthought... it's the worst of the worst for me because I can't even enjoy the music that way. That's just me, though. ;)

I also have a hard time enjoying music by people that I just can't tolerate as 'people'. Not that they have to be 'nice', but they can't be fake. There's a Canadian band called Great Big Sea, and part of their image is that they're fun-loving good-time boys from out east. I had the occasion to meet them, and all except for one were disinterested, arrogant dicks. Couldn't listen to their 'party' songs after that because I coudln't imagine wanting to party with them. :D

Neil Young... he has some really crap lyrics at times (though, brilliant ones at others!) but he's always himself, so that's music I can really listen to.
