I cannot recall ever seeing a band do an improvised arrangement of a song on stage. Ever.
If I wanted the best version of a song, I could just as easily play over a vox down cd mix. I want to make a song breathe, and if I went to see a band perform a note for note perfect version of their song, I would be technically impressed, but a little let down over the lack of ... something.
That is working on the assumption that the best version is the one on the album. That may be the case when its recorded but one would hope that it would evolve over time. Besides, what works best live is often not the same as what works best in the context of an album [unless its a live album]. And what your talking about is definitely something that could/should be addressed well before you step on stage.

Caleb, from your manual page it appears that Live Arrange passages cannot be recorded. Is that the case? Because the ability to go through and do your arrangement live and have the results recorded would be a considerably more useful thing.

P.S. Sorry for hijacking your thread.

Hijack away...

Within the Live Arranger itself there is no way to record your performance.

However EnergyXT could record the output in a couple of different ways if I think about it.

One is the Master Output which can record in realtime the whole think warts and all. This will be an audio recording.

The other option is probably use another sequencer component or an instance of the EnergyXT VSTi outside of the sequencer comp or something. I've never done this and I don't know how successful it would be, but I would like to find out.

I might fool around with this and see if there's a decent solution.

*EDIT* How do you sync the recording for a sequencer in EnergyXT VSTi with the playback of a sequencer in the standalone - anyone know?

If I can do that I think that maybe you can get complete midi/audio recordings of your live jamming using an instance of EnergyXT VSTfx....yet to test.

I was just thinking it could be a good way to get your initial arrangement happenning. There is a function in ORION which allows you to add currently playing patterns to the Playlist live which is a good way of building up a song quickly, once you have all the elements.

Yeah - Muzys had the ability to record your jam session into a new arrangement. That would be fantastic to add, but if I can come up with a decent project template to do this in EnergyXT I'll let everyone know.

I'm really interested in others' experiences using eXT live. I'm a Tracktion user and am trying to suss out how to port my tracks to a live performance. Someone on the Tracktion board suggested that eXT would be a good alternative to Ableton Live (cuz I don't want to drop $400). Any thoughts?

Unless you work with audio loops a lot, I honestly don't see what Live offers that is so great for live work. Certainly eXT beats it in every other regard (in my view).

Hmmm - I thought I had done that.

Will look again.

Well actually I am planning on using loops (rendered from pieces created in Tracktion)... Has anyone done much Live-style improvising with eXT? Thanks...

Well, if you have pre-recorded loops that you want to play live at the tempo you recorded them, then eXT will do it fine i think....The feature that makes Live better than eXT for live sets (as far as I know because i don't earn any license for Live, only seen friends using it) is that you can stretch audio files.....and adapt your pre-recorded loops to a different tempo than the original......

I use eXT with loops on stage, but I need to send a click to my drummer (does this word exist ???) so that everybody is synced.....
Don't you know what Mekanik Metal Disco looks like ?

Thats a click track. And if you have a spare audio output you can send it to the drummer. Let them find the sound and division eg.1/4, 1/8 etc. they prefer.

Another way is to get hold of an old midi sound module with perc sounds and use midi to trigger the module.
