Xian is a large region of China -- it's China's ancient capital and a decidedly non-Christian place, so I fail to see either the humour or the reason in it's use to describe Christian music -- or anything "Christian" for that matter.

It's almost as if it was thought up by some ignorant redneck who either can't spell "Christian" or is too lazy to use more than one syllable.

For what it's worh -- THIS is Xian Music.

The reason some people use Xian as shorthand is that, in Greek, the first letter of the the name Christ, is X. (xristos, er..essentially). The letter became a symbol for the Christian faith, in the underground during persecution. Conveniently, seminarians use it as shorthand for "Christ", as well as the Theta for God (Theos). It stems from tradition.

Agreed!

Personally, I am also moved by the scores to the great bibilical films, scores by Rosza, Newman, Waxman. VERY moving of the spirit imho.
