Pops and clicks when scrolling

Anytime I scroll my mouse, anytime I shrink or expand tracks while playing, anytime I move a track left or right there is always clicks and breakups in audio. Actualy, any semi-intesive graphic action breaks up the sound and makes those clicks. Is this normal in Tracktion or there is a problem with my PC? I am using version 1.xx. How's the situation with version 2?
I dont recall Cubase had those issues.

AGP graphics cards, particularly Nvidia ones, have been known to hog CPU cycles unnecessarily and cause clicks in audio related tasks.

or take a look at the pci latenci tool. this can give your gfxcard less time to work, so resulting in more time for audio to work.

assuming you are on PC:
what aldi said - and also try:
- enabling ASIO direct mode
- also try enabling realtime priority mode in the TRacktion settings. It can cause problems with a few plugins, but it may help.

Same problem here when using Tracktion. Nvidia video card used here also. Sometimes I have to shut down everything and re-boot as the audio starts stuttering very bad and nothing helps clear this but a re-boot. Machine is an HP 2.53 gig hz and 512 meg's of ram. I can live with it if I shut down all other apps.

I have the same problem when I have more tracks in tracktion. Try render some track to free up more CPU.
I also think it is related to the quality soundcard and its driver. I have this problem very often on my Maudio USB Duo but not my Echo soundcard.

some things I know can help for sure....
If you have not set your system to background services.......please do it.......it helps.
start menu, right click my computer, select properties, select advanced, select performance, select advanced, under processor sched select background services. Then restart.
Next (in the free realm) believe it or not having 16 bit colors can help. Also, for nvidia, selecting "best permormance" on your nvidia options.
Also, if you are using the manufactures drivers instead of nvidias "generic" drivers.......consisder switching......found them to be much better.
Disabling allot of the "fluffy" windows visual stuff can help.......but it's not as criticle as it once was.
Last.......this is not free..........consider using 1 gb of ram or more. This seems to be the main problem with the clicking/moving thing which used to drive me up the wall!

Most people don't realize that you can and should adjust the time devices hold on to the PCI BUS, so called "latency" of IRQs and thus Cards using them.
Your audio card needs top priority but probably doesn't and no end of other tweeking will change this.
People were recording audio without pops and clicks on Pentium 300 machines - so what changed ?

The above two links offer free tools for adjusting PCI bus hogs.....
cheers

I have 2 gb of RAM and still get the popping and clicking occasionally.eyeknow666 wrote:Last.......this is not free..........consider using 1 gb of ram or more. This seems to be the main problem with the clicking/moving thing which used to drive me up the wall!
I just close out of tracktion 2, reopen, and the clicks are gone for awhile. I haven't quite figured out what the process is that is causing it, but the video suggestions may be right on in my case, because I do have an nvidia. I'll have to investigate some of your other suggestions. They may be helpful, too. Thanks.

I've had the pops and clicks thing with my uad card, until I moved it. Mine was caused by the UAD sharing an IRQ with my video card. I've also gone to running my video card in 16 bit color resolution. Just a couple of thoughts.

It sounds like a problem with your video card sharing IRQ with your audio card. Look in device manager, view menu-resources by type, and look at the list of IRQ's. If your video and audio card are on the same one, you can just move your audio card to another slot.
