awww, a man after my own heart... :)

try tuning them all to unison for a big early-sonic youth, stacked harmonics, wall of noise thing.

probably won't fit into your metal band though... ;)

I should really post a picture of her.
how's that unison work, all strings have the same tuning? different or same gauge?
As for metal, sometimes when I distort things heavily enough, I cant even use 3 strings :)
Wall of sound sounds like something I could use.

anyway you want it really...

Sonic Youth have loads of old guitars with wacky stringings and stuff (all the same gauge, top half one gauge, bottom half another etc.)

I've been fairly conservative and only played around with a normally strung guitar so I've just retuned strings to the nearest note I think I can reach without snapping the string (or bending the neck... :))

For unison then all strings are tuned to the same note, not neccessarily the same pitch (frequency). So you could have the bottom strings tuned to a low E with the top ones an octave or two above.

Obviously you can do whatever you like, throw a few strings in tuned a fifth apart and you've got your power chords. Bloody powerful throug a mildly distorted amp, three pairs of fifths. Bloody spooky if you can apply a little trem too...
