OT: Came back from Barcelona recently. One of the most beautiful cities I've ever been to.
(edit - gah, that SO wasn't worth a new page... ho hum... err... yes, no more bad behaviour on the forums, etc. etc.)

I'd like to add that jumping to conclusions never helps anyone. I've seen several people here bring up problems and immediately get accused of piracy when there is absolutely no evidence of it. It's incredibly insulting to the person asking for help, and it is damaging to the community. And no, adding the words "no offense, but..." to your accusation isn't going to make it better.
No matter how strongly you feel about piracy, you are not Mackie's watchdog. Mackie offers a free demo. ANYONE could show up here asking for help, and it would be a legitimate request. If you don't have a solution, fine, but lay off the accusations. This place is turning into the cubase.net forums FAST. Let's not have that, eh?

Yes, I have to say that whenever I've posted something about an "installation corrupted" error, there are at least two people who find it necessary to accuse me of having a pirated copy.
And whenever I've posted a feature request, even with a dozen people saying, "yeah, I could use that, too!", there's always somebody who has to jump on and say how they don't need that feature, so they don't want it added. Geez, there's a hundred features in Tracktion I would never use, I'm not about to write to Mackie to tell them I don't need step recording features, MDA plugs, built-in EQ, etc.
But, overall I must say that I've gotten great answers to most of my questions. Things that I would have been stuck on for weeks on end were resolved within an hour of posting a question to this board. I guess sometimes we just have to accept the good with the bad.

I don't know the posts you're talking about so I'm not talking specifics, but in general it might not be as clear-cut as saying people shouldn't disagree with feature requests. Just posting that you don't want a feature isn't very useful. On the other hand, some comments not supporting the feature might be useful. For eaxmple, saying a particular problem could be solved in a better way than as described in the original feature request, or saying there is already a good way to achieving what you're trying to do that you might not know about.
Wandering a little off-topic... in my experience of software development, what makes a really useful suggestion for improvement is a description of the problem rather than a description of how you think it should be solved. Suggesting a solution certainly doesn't hurt, but there's always the possibility that the developer may come up with an even better solution if they know what problem it is they are trying to solve.
But to come back on-topic, I certainly agree the whole thing needs to be done in a civil manner.

I've been on several forums and have seen some crazy stupid sounding questions. Many times this type of question will get me thinking. I've seen many people slam the poster. It takes moere energy to slam, that it does to simply move on. Some questions have led me to see things in a different light and open doors to new teqnieques.
Years ago in a magazine called R.E.P. someone raised a question about a problem of a recorded track being out of pitch for the vocalist. It was recomended to change the speed of the multitrack machine. The next issue the engineer replied that at a slower speed the timber of her vox was way different. This gave me the idea to intentionally do this while double tracking. I would record the vox at regular speed, then do a double track at a different speed. What I discovered was that the vocalist was FORCED to sing in a different mannor. She was forced to sing with different timber in her voice, useing her vocal chords differently. The result of the two vox tracks mixed at 11:00 and 1:00 BLEW ME AWAY. The vox was amazingly FAT. I gained so much bussiness from this tequnique that I learned from a stupid question. This also worked well with guitar also. I was disappointed to learn that the Mackie HDR never came thru with this feature

OK, I think this is a different discussion all together. Forums are not for direct discussion with employees. We will chime in if we feel it is necesary (like this post) but we cannot reply directly to every post. This is quoted from the top of the Mackie forum page:
>>>
These forums are designed as a resource for our customers to discuss their Mackie products. Mackie has assigned moderators for each forum to ensure the accuracy of information. These forums are not intended to be a live chat session with Mackie personnel. The moderators will be checking the forums several times each business day. If you have an immediate need for Technical Support for any Mackie product, in the United States call us at: 1 (800)898-3211 during business hours (7 a.m.-5 p.m. M-F, Pacific Time) or outside the US at 1-425-487-4333. You can also contact Tech Support from our online form.
<<<
Now having said that I have addressed many questions posed above. I have said that both time stretching improvements and clip based automation are highly requested features. But I can not discuss what will be included in new versions before they are announced. Neither will any other Mackie employee.

I don't post my opinions here any more (well, that's a lie since I'm posting) let's say I pop in sparingly...but here are some observations from someone who doesn't play ball anymore in this arena.......
1. If you disagree with someoen that is in the "click" on this thread....you get flamed by that click. Nothing useful comes out of it.
2. I was accused of being an instigator and even though I have made about ....oh.......two posts in the last couple of months....this forum is a hate fest. It's mean, it's selfish and it's unproductive.
3. I have not bought t2, and probably never will. T1 is good enough without the upgrade and mackies way of doing business with the upgrade from one to two has made me not ever want to do business with them ever again. Add that with this forum and I see no point in being on the mackie side.......
It would be well served if people could just take notice of how things "sit" in the mix on this forum and back off, let the chemicals separate for awhile......watch instead of participate.......believe me.......it's an eyeopener.......

Ok, fair enough, you guys like to develop behind a cloak of mystery and intrigue. But, can you discuss the timeline for announcing the announcements? And are you allowed to hint at what is on the bugfix list and what is fixed? Please feel free to use more than a one word response.Beno wrote:... ttoz, read my post again (the section you quoted). I did not say we don't announce anything. I said we do not discuss anything before they are anounced through official releases.

Well, Jules is a pretty tough act to follow, he set a precedent that no software company could really live up to. Nobody will provide that level of communication other than an independent developer.
Hopefully Mackie will come around and deliver an update that will truly be worth the wait.
