Hi

(i have too posted in the official mackie forum)

I have a serious bug with the plugin scan.Whereas I used a lot of this VST before, tracktion don't recognize a lot of this plugins.

For exemple DK+ from nusofting. I used this VSTi last week with tracktion, but now DK+ is in th "plugins that don't work" list. I have tried with tracktion 1 and 2, uninstal the both, reinstall...always the same problem.

All this plugins work fine with energy Xt and minihost so I don't think it could be a windows or anythings else problem.

Today I make a new scan, and the list change.  I really don't understand. If someone could help me...It's not a nightmare but a very serious problem for making music :?

here is some picture of the problem ( there is maybe a link between this plugins but I am not qualified )

scan 1
scan 1 tracktion 2.0
scan 2

thanks for reading my post :)

You have plug-ins that are conflicting with each other. Likely, some of your plug-ins use IDs (all VST have 4-character ID codes) that aren't registered and therefore aren't 'cross-checked' against other plug-ins that might share the same ID.

Also, the scan IS a bit wonky in that if it encounters a messed up plug-in, the results can be unpredictable and sometimes the next plug-in that would normally be scanned is scanned with problems.

The solution-- unfortunately, you probably have to weed out the problem plug-in. In theory, while the scan T uses isn't perfect, it DOES work fine when there are no dodgy plug-ins. I suggest putting your plug-ins folder on a diet. Trust me, you only THINK you need half of those things. ;) I once had a fat folder, too. Come to think of it, it's almost time to prune again.

On a final note, what Tracktion does differently than other programs that seem to load the plug-ins fine is that it actually scans them for things like IDs. In hosts which do NOT check plug-ins first, you could end up with corrupt edits due to conflicting plug-ins, or it just might not work at all.

I'm sorry , I don't understand

I'm totally agree but I have time and I want to try a lot of this plugins, that's why I have so many. The only I use yet are the nusofting-dash stuff, angelina, camelphat, relofter and wusikstation.
thanks fot your answer :)

To "weed out" means to eliminate the things that you don't need.

I had this problem with DK+ a while back, but I downloaded a recent version and it suddenly scanned correctly and appears in Tracktion fine. (for a while, it would only find the 'lite' version of the DLL).

All creds to NUSofting, but rather than update the download, they just keep creating more patches to download. Seems to change from week to week.

ok
I re-install just the plugin I use. no more try for me  .

just a question... What do you mean with "they aren't registered"? ( no agressivity, just trying to understand)
THANKS A LOT fot the advice, it works great now.
BTW, betabugs plugins rocks, I use it for my music all the time! You can be proud .I'm too a music teacher and it's perfect for the students (and they all ask me why the others plugins don't have so beautiful gui :D)

thanks again

Our hosts use information from the plug-ins to identify them, including a 4-digit ID code that MUST BE included in every plug-in as part of the VST spec. In theory, that 4-digit ID is logged into a database maintained by Steinberg, along with a brief description of the plug-in.

Some developers (freeware AND commercial) haven't always bothered to register their 4-digit ID.

Let's say that you have your drum plug-in called "SuperDrumTabular" and the developer arbitrarily ID'd it as SPDT and registered it with Steinberg.

Another developer makes a plug-in that he calls "Steve's Primitive Delay Ticker" and IDs it with SPDT also. BUT, he didn't bother registering it with Steinberg. If he had done so, the database would have told him that he needs to pick a different ID. But since he didn't, the plug-in now has an identical ID to another one.

Some hosts may not use this 4-digit ID to verify and initialize plug-ins. But that can cause problems depending on how else the plug-ins are managed internally by the host. To the best of my knowledge, Tracktion uses the 4-digit ID for internal management, so it will cause conflicts and problems, some of which arise during initialization.

Now, all that said-- now that you've described your problems and solutions, it sounds more like a broken-ass plug-in than a 4-digit ID thing anyhow. Though, I have DK+, have never udpated it, and it still loads fine. So I may or may not be right about it still. ;) Like I said, the real solution is to put your plug-ins directory on a diet.
