Extend the functionality of "Tracktion Sampler"?

I remember 4-5 years ago when Emagic released their EXS24 sampler; it was so simple to use, yet having the capability to import AKAI/GIGA and so on. So I went straight out and bought it (and at the time it was very expensive, but I just fell in love with it).
Now that those days are over and things have changed (Emagic was bought by Apple), I've spent several years trying to find a replacement for Logic/EXS24. Tracktion seems to be a very good candidate for the sequencer part because of its creative interface, but although the built-in sampler is very simple to use - even simpler than EXS24 - it doesn't convert samples, which makes it somewhat less useful (to me, anyway).
Therefore, I would be tremendously happy, if the Mackie folks could extend the functionality of the sampler and implement some converting functions. And I'm very sure, that Jules and the rest of the hard working team of creative people at Mackie/Raw would come up with a brilliant and simple interface for this.
It's funny how, sometimes, it's the small differences that make the big differences - for instance the way in which you choose a preset; how many menus do you have to go through? and so on. A sampler like Kontakt seems very powerful, but I'd never invest my money in it due to it's interface, that looks very cool, but doesn't exactly support your creative flow, when all you really want is quick access to trying out 10 or 15 samples for a violin or guitar track. In the EXS24 all you have to do is press the '+'-button, and you get the next sample/program. Or you click your mouse in the search-field, and all the samples/programs from a library show up in a clear overview (no file browsing from 10 different folders...). I know that the VST version of EXS24 is still available for PC, but it lacks certain functions - like the '+'-button sample selecting.
Anyone has a view on this?

I don't know whether there are any plans to extend the sampler, especially as the market is now awash with good commercial and freeware alternatives. The integrated approach has some advantages though, and I for one would certainly like to some basic extensions to the sampler. For quick and dirty jobs you can't beat it.

A simple ADSR envelope on the existing sampler in T2 would make me quite happy. As is, you have 2 choices; abruptly chop off the end of a sample or let it ring indefinitely. It's ok for drums and short release samples though.

If the sampler had velocity layers I would use it loads. As it doesn't, i kinda don't, as there are other free alternatives. But i like quick and simple

So, from all of you guys' points of view, what's the best alternative to the Tracktion Sampler, if the requirements are:
- Simplicity (interface-wise) and quick access to the samples
- Converting functionality (pure sample playback from AKAI/GIGA and so on)
And what would keep Mackie/Raw from keeping on developing their own sampler and take it to the next level?

This is the one thing I've been hoping for. At least velocity layers, envelope controls, and maybe giga or soundfont import, and if possible disk streaming, and I would never use another sampler.

You might search the forum for Paax and CyberFree but they won't meet all your requirements either. They are fairly simple but don't have import AFAIK. I was almost expecting Mackie/Jules to further develop the existing T1 sampler for T2. Maybe in a future release.Think77 wrote:So, from all of you guys' points of view, what's the best alternative to the Tracktion Sampler, if the requirements are:

i would die for a 'proper' sampler. is there really an exs(p) replacement on windows? i don't even think you can purchase any of the emagic win-vst plugs anymore...
i would die to import all the garageband+jampack instruments in to tracktion. thats the only reason i still use garageband on a crummy mac. that or it'd be nice to see a free exs (or insert sampler here) ->to-> sfz format (im a fan of sampler files keeping seperate from the samples).

Forget it, You have more chance of Beno building one in SM than the one in T getting a facelift, I guess it was designed something of an afterthought but i find it a shame it doesnt have those one or two features that would make it invaluable.

I like the eXT sampler a lot. Rough around the edges in some places but the potential is there. Can't beat the price either.AD80 wrote:Kontakt and Kompakt is all I need for sampling. The sampler that comes with Energy XT is also very nice.

to be honest I think t2 sampler is fine, and many other issues need to be considered before playing with some sampler
