ID3 Tag Database - Recommendations?

So,

I'm about halfway through ripping my entire CD collection to OGG Vorbis 500kps in case I lose one and also so that I can do quicker conversions to mp3/WMA for my portable.

I discovered I'm missing a 25-disc wallet, which I don't think was full, but it had some of my favourite CDs in it! Bummer... but not the point of the thread.

The ripping program I've been using creates ID3 tag information (naturally), and I would like to use this fact to catalogue my entire library while I'm at it. Primarily, I could use it on the computer as a searchable database; however, secondarily I would like to be able to print out a list of albums and/or songs (probably not songs, since that would take too much paper!).

Does anybody have any freeware to recommend? As I search for it, I find lots of stuff that shows promise, but none of the descriptions give me all the info I want, and I'm not up for testing 10 different programs in order to find one that does the job-- I'd rather hear from people who have already done the legwork. :hihi:

Cheers,
Greg

Cheers, Tommo. The Trapper looks pretty much like what I want, except it only indicates MP3 and WMA compatibility and I use OGG Vorbis.

MP3 Tag supports Vorbis but I'm not sure that it'll export a "catalogue" the same way that Trapper will.

Obviously, there's a way to find out, but the reason for the thread was to hopefully avoid testing a bazillion programs. ;) I definitely appreciate the response, though, as I hadn't seen that Trapper one and it just may find Vorbis ID3 tags if I trick it somehow.

I like these two a friend told me,

Envy:
Don't worry about what someone else has on their plate or you won't finsih what's on yours.

Relationships/friendships:
If it don't fit don't force it

From another friend:
Don't worry about all the things you may be missing out on as long as the one thing you're doing at the moment you enjoy in this big carnival of life.

And last but not most :)

You had my hopes up...

I finally broke down and tried a few, and they're not doing what I want. It doesn't seem like it should be a hard task. :( That Mp3tag works with .ogg after all, but I can only seem to export the file with all the filenames included. I just want the artists and albums for printing purposes. The song titles can stay in the digital realm.

You could try MediaMonkey, I found it was the best freeware mp3 library around. You can sort the tunes by many different parameters. I don't know about direct printing from it though, although you may be able to select the track list and print. I can't check at the moment as I'm not on my pc.

Check out Media Center (no not the Windows thing)

http://www.jrmediacenter.com/

I can't use anything else now for playing my mp3 collection. It makes mass tagging a breeze, and the search possibilites are endless.

It can make cool smart playlists too. For example "Play me a random selection of all Punk genre tunes, that are less than 3 minutes long, but don't incluse any more than 2 songs by the same band."

It will catalog pictures and movies too (basically all media), but I only use it for mp3.

Oh, and you can print lists easy enough too :)
