First of all hi to all of you!

Then to business... Ok, it's kinda shame that my first posting has to be problem post, but I can't help it, this is driving me absolutely mad (almost atleast)...
First, before you read any further, say if cubase 2 runs this program or not, if the answer is no, then don't go any further.
Ok, so here's the dealo. No matter what I try, I can't get Filterscape demo running. I've done as the info file says, I've copied Filterscape folder to my vstplugins folder. I even tried both of them, cos Cubase 2 has 2 different folders named vstplugins or so... Anyway, then I tried to copy just the uhe_data folder plus those dlls in the root of my vstplugins folder. Oh, I get an error also, can't remember the exact words, but when opening cubase it says that MSVCR71.DLL file is missing.
I've actually tried to get it from other place, but no good... I don't get the error anymore, but filterscape isn't anywhere... I don't think I'm blind, but I might miss something here, dunno...
Btw, I didn't get the earlier version working either.

Oh and I tried to make as clean as installation as possible, used regedit to remove any pointings to filterscape and u-he stuff...

So is there something I'm doing wrong or something else?
Help really much appreciated.

Post

Sorry to hear this, but I've got no idea what's going wrong there. Filterscape runs just fine on my PC using SX 2.

There's indeed a dependency to MSVCR71 in Filterscape which bugs me big time because it should not be there. I'll investigate this furtherly and may provide an update if possible.

Oh wait, what's the date of the info file?

Cheers,

;) Urs

Post

The info file is dated 29.5.

Hmm, I was wondering, how should the file structure look like? I mean if I take my vstplugins folder, how should the filterscape be placed there?

I know this is a dumb question, but I really don't know what to do and want to check if I'm doing everything correctly.

Post

Well, the normal way would be this: Inside Vstplugins you have a folder "Filterscape". In the Filterscape folder you have the 3 dlls and the uhe_data folder.

The uhe_data folder contains subdirectories for Images, Scripts, Fonts, Presets.

Well, I'm not exactly a Windows guru. Might be possible that I'm too dumb to make it work on every system :-|

Ok, I have them like that.

Only exception is that folder structure is a bit different. It is uhe_data and inside it there are Filterscape folder that contains Fonts, Images and Scripts (I guess you meant that way, just clarifying) and then there is also Presets folder residing next to the Filterscape folder.

And it doesn't help either that I changed the folder structure to be exactly as you said.

Btw, the missing file error comes when cubase loads. It says Initializing: Filterscape. And then the error pops up.

Post

Hmmm, well, best is to leave the uhe_data folder untouched ;)

Have you tried putting mscvr71.dll in your System directory?

Cheers,

;) Urs

Post

Well, I searched for that file in my pc. I found 2 different versions. I'll try them out and let you know how it went.

Post

Ok, I did that copying thing now. I copied that file to system32 and just in case to windows root aswell.

Well the odd thing is the FilterscapeVA popped at my vst list... But, not the other ones

Post

Well, looks like we're getting closer at least...

;) Urs

Post

True, true... closer, but what now?

There isn't much to do anymore, cos moving those files around doesn't help, obviously and copying that .dll file only helped with VA.

I actually don't have any idea what to do next, I usually solve many computer problems on my own, but I would need an error message or something to work with. Now it only seems that it complained about the missing dll file. And it seems it only solved 1/3 of the problem, quite odd if you ask me, cos if it would make any sense, all 3 should have started working and not just one

Ideas are welcome :D

Post

Well, yeah, I'm out of ideas here :-|

All 3 share the same code. The only difference in VST code between the synth and the effects is a single line of code, saying if it's a synth or not. So, I have no idea why only the synth works and the others don't.

What does the Plugin Information Window say about the others?

Cheers,

;) Urs

Post

What do you mean by Plugin information window?

Post

Cubase has a menu entry under "Devices" or so that should be named "Plugin Information". I don't know for sure, I've got it all in German here.

Nonetheless, it's a window showing a list with the states of each vst plugin installed. I need to know everything it says about Filterscape/Q6 including the colour of the background of their list entry.

Btw. there's also a "Refresh" (or whatever it is in English) button that you could try.

Cheers,

;) Urs

I'm a very experienced Windows user, and the install for Filterscape is non-existent. It doesn't create any folders because the zip file only unzips to the default directory of the zip utility being used. So, the folder structure you say should exist doesn't, and there is no uhe_data folder, despite what the rtf file says. At minimum you should have a text file that completely describes the folder structure and what files go where. And given that a professional install should do all of this by itself, I can't understand why you are charging $129 for the software.

Only two of the DLLs actually show up in any host I tried, and the plug-ins are blank because none of the PNG files are found. I've installed many dozens of plug-ins, and this is the only one I've ever seen with this problem.

I would be interested as to how this zip file is supposed to actually work.

The zip file unzips to whatever folder you ask it to, and it contains the folder structure necessary. WinZip (which I use) has an option called "Use folder names". If this option is activated, the folder structure of the zipped archive is preserved. I am sure other zip utilities have the same option in some form.

All three plug-ins show up in all my hosts, and none are blank. Check your zip utility to make sure you unzip with folder names, then the plugs should work with no problem.
