Interesting thread... As far as KingsX and Dream Theater... They are closer to the top of bands I like and follow. Both have stuck with a sound that have kept them out of the mainstream arena, but they have kept true to their roots and hav an extremely loyal and dedicated following. You either love them or hate them. Evanescence should not be in the same conversation with these two bands.
Ty Tabor is quite good on guitar but doesn't come near what guys like Petrucci and MacAlpine can do.
As far as black metal (metal bands that have black members not the truer definition as mentioned earlier) you can't get much heavier than God Forbid.
