:) HELLO EVERYONE

I have been following this forum and others about the Mackie Onyx mixers for a month or more. Man what a lot of useful information for newbies like me, a vertual Gold Mine of helpl.

I just purchased a Makcie 1620 the card and have also purchased a Dennon DN-C550R CD recorder a Dennon DRM-555 single well cassette tape deck. I purchased a Behring Pro-B@ mike to use for this and was wondering if anyone else has it and how they like it?

I will be using all of this for our radio program and for a studio to do DC's with. As well as there are some that still hold on to the cassettes so that is why I have the DRM-555 cassette recorder.

When I registered the Tracktion1 I got the update to Tracktion2 free. So with that all loaded up I tried. Duh yeah, smart move.

I had a SB Live LS soundcard and quickly saw that it did not have any ASIO Drivers so I hot footed it up to Staples and perused the SB Audigy2 and found it had the ASIO v.2 (I believe it was). Now I have things ready to go.

As a newbie I have a few questions.

My system is a P4 530J 3.06 with 1 gig of ram a 160gig sata hard drive at 7200 rpm a Samsung CD/RW and I can use the Samsung DVD/CD RW as well. This is my home system I have set up as a little office/studio room for recording. I almost forgot I have a ABIT AS8 mohter board and it has SPDIF outputs on the motherboards sound card and the Dennon CD recorder has them as well. Could be interesting in the future?

My laptop is a Dell Smartstep 250N P4 2.4 (this is not a mobile processor) with 512gig of memory and a Hitachie 60gig 7200rpm drive that I upgraded to when in Texas in May at Fryie's.

I intend to lay down some rhythm tracks here at home and then when I get to Texas use the Dell Laptop to at the rest of the instruments.

Now for the big one, am I set up witht the right computers or am I going to have to get a SB Audigy2 for the Dell so I can use what I have done on the home computer?

Any card that has ASIO drivers will be enough to get started. Even those that don't have ASIO drivers (typically the onboard sound devices for laptops) can often be sucessfully used by installing the freeware ASIO4ALL driver.

Obviously if you want to get the maximum performance, and audio quality, you'll need to splurge for an audio card that is more targetted towards realtime audio applications. Even the higher end Creative Labs cards don't really cut it here, but there are plenty of cheap options. For example, the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 can now be had for less than a hundred dollars, I believe.

I can't recall the link for ASIO4ALL, but you can google for it.

This is great thanks for all the help I know there will be more forthcoming.

Now if I can just get started to record this weeks radio program. I feel like I have been reading tech stuff for the whole week and still haven't got much of anywhere. Guess I need to use the Italian Noodle more and see if I can wing it a bit.
